Prosecutors say that this phrase amounted to a threat against Trump\u2019s life, as the slang term \u201c86\u201d often refers to killing someone.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>In the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116547422429575656\">first post<\/a>, Trump wrote the caption \u201cPathetic!!!\u201d with a clip from Comey\u2019s appearance on <em>The Late Show with Stephen Colbert<\/em> in May 2025. In it, Comey explains away the term \u201c86 47\u201d by claiming that his wife thought that \u201c86\u201d meant something in the restaurant industry. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/4552833\/thom-tillis-86-comey-trump-seashells\/\">argued last Sunday<\/a> that Comey did not commit a crime while echoing a similar sentiment, agreeing that \u201c86\u201d refers to taking something off the menu or removing a product.<\/p>\n<p>Trump reiterated his attack that Comey is a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4549010\/trump-comey-dirty-cop-86-47-means-kill-president-trump\/\">\u201cdirty cop\u201d<\/a> in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116547434147907478\">second post<\/a>, which also features a video of Comey explaining the story of when he found the seashells while walking on the beach with his wife.
