Callais*, prompting changes such as Louisiana suspending House primaries to redraw its map. As a result, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/4560781\/republicans-virginia-map-overturned-four-gop-seats\/\">Virginia Democrats are forced to stick<\/a> with their 6-5 advantage through the midterm elections and the rest of the decade.<\/p>\n<p>When all is said and done, Republicans could gain anywhere from five to 14 seats due to redistricting, according to an estimate from the <em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/analysis\/house\/redistricting\/2025-2026-redistricting-tracker-how-many-seats-could-flip-0?check_logged_in=1\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.cookpolitical.com\/analysis\/house\/redistricting\/2025-2026-redistricting-tracker-how-many-seats-could-flip-0?check_logged_in=1\">Cook Political Report<\/a><\/em>. The Democratic campaign could net them six seats.<\/p>\n<p>While the GOP may have some extra energy for the midterm campaigns, voter enthusiasm for Trump\u2019s party is low.<\/p>\n<p>In the new <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/05\/06\/nx-s1-5810555\/trump-iran-gas-prices-midterms-polling\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/05\/06\/nx-s1-5810555\/trump-iran-gas-prices-midterms-polling\">NPR\/PBS News\/Marist poll<\/a> this week, 53% of Republicans and 47% of Trump supporters said they were \u201cvery enthusiastic\u201d to vote in the midterm elections. By contrast, 61% of Democrats and 2024 voters for former Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kamala-harris\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"748\">Kamala Harris<\/a> described themselves the same way.<\/p>\n<p>Key issues weighing on voters\u2019 minds this election cycle are the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8768\">economy<\/a> and the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"100\">Iran<\/a> war, which are intertwined with each other.<\/p>\n<p>Those points are negatively impacting Trump\u2019s approval ratings. The NPR polls shows his economic approval is down to 35%, and his approval regarding Iran is even lower at 33%. Furthermore, 63% of respondents blame Trump for the record increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/don-lemon-praises-slightly-lower-gas-prices-amid-bidens-push-for-better-press\/\" title=\"Don Lemon Praises Slightly Lower Gas Prices Amid Biden\u2019s Push For Better Press\">gas prices amid<\/a> the Iran conflict. Overall, he stands at 37% approval and 59% disapproval.<\/p>\n<p>Other polls paint a similar picture. Only 36% of people approve of Trump\u2019s performance and 58% disapprove, according to a recent <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net\/documents\/econTabReport_Zi1MEwp.pdf\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net\/documents\/econTabReport_Zi1MEwp.pdf\"><em>Economist<\/em>\/YouGov poll<\/a>. His Iran-related approval numbers are even more stark, with a nearly 30-point gap between those who approve and others who disapprove.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/poll-trumps-approval-rating-hits-second-term-low-economy-iran-war-rcna331462\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/poll-trumps-approval-rating-hits-second-term-low-economy-iran-war-rcna331462\">NBC News Decision Desk poll<\/a> showed similar shares of overall approval for Trump\u2019s handling of the job as president.<\/p>\n<p>Despite his waning popularity over Iran, Trump is adamant about preventing the Islamic regime from developing nuclear weapons \u2014 one of the many reasons he cites for the U.S.-led attack.<\/p>\n<p>A Napolitan News survey from last month showed 53% of U.S. voters saying it is more important to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon than ending the war. Trump touted the survey\u2019s findings on social media Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVery important. It remains to be seen if the minority party\u2019s early edge can translate to taking control of Congress.
