But in Georgia, Trump has remained silent on the Senate primary, leaving MAGA-base voters looking for clear guidance from Trump on where to place their ballots with no luck.<\/p>\n<p>Peach State Republican voters will choose between three front-running Senate candidates on the May 19 primary ballot: Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-collins\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"17647\">Mike Collins<\/a> (R-GA), Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/buddy-carter\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"17646\">Buddy Carter<\/a> (R-GA), and former University of Tennessee football coach <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/derek-dooley\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"17648\">Derek Dooley<\/a>. Early voting began in late April, with Georgians showing up in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/4547468\/georgia-record-primary-voter-turnout-first-day-early-voting\/\">record numbers<\/a> across the state.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that Trump, who has long been the kingmaker <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4557093\/trump-indiana-trouble-massie-cassidy-election\/\">swinging major endorsement power<\/a> within the GOP, has chosen to stay out of the Georgia Senate race rings interesting for several reasons. He <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/4559000\/trump-makes-clear-support-jones-against-jackson-georgia-governor-race\/\">chose to endorse<\/a> in the state\u2019s gubernatorial primary; he has backed <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/549502\/trump-predicts-herschel-walker-will-be-an-even-better-senator-in-endorsement\/\">Senate candidates<\/a> in the state in the past, and just chose to back Barr in a similar, three-candidate primary scenario.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> spoke with University of Georgia political science professor Trey Hood, an elections expert and the author of the 2023 article \u201cHow Much is a Trump Endorsement Worth?\u201d, about how the absence of a Trump endorsement has affected the Senate GOP primary in the state. Hood opined that the non-endorsement could have come down to the open-endedness of who could win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s probably because \u2026 they can\u2019t tell who\u2019s going to win,\u201d Hood said. \u201cTrump especially doesn\u2019t want to endorse a loser.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins has led in most of the polling, but many voters are undecided. Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brian-kemp\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3312\">Brian Kemp\u2019s<\/a> (R-GA) bullish advocacy for his pick to win, Dooley, could boost Dooley\u2019s profile come Election Day, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republicans-vowed-to-elect-more-women-they-did-just-that\/\" title=\"...ublicans Vowed To Elect More Women...They Did Just That\">recent polling<\/a> suggesting <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/new-poll-shows-shifts-georgia-senate-race\">slight shifts <\/a>in the field even within the early voting period.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4528178\/brian-kemp-push-dooley-senate-race-despite-poor-poll\/\">BRIAN KEMP PUSHES DEREK DOOLEY AS GOP\u2019S BEST BET IN SENATE RACE DESPITE POOR POLLING: \u2018SOMETHING DIFFERENT\u2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s still close. Collins is usually polling out ahead, but, there\u2019s, at least in the polls, a whole lot of undecideds,\u201d Hood said.<\/p>\n<p>In many races where Trump has not cast his endorsement, the candidates have turned to trying to prove, on their own, their loyalty to Trump and Trump\u2019s agenda. This happened in Kentucky, ahead of Trump\u2019s endorsement of Barr, where the race had essentially become <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/3785274\/andy-barr-maga-credentials-vies-trump-backing-replace-mcconnell\/\">a Trump-off<\/a> between Barr, businessman Nate Morris, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4555932\/daniel-cameron-threads-needle-kentucky-senate-primary\/\">former state Attorney General Daniel Cameron<\/a> as they waited to see if Trump would weigh in. <\/p>\n<p>Hood explained to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> the effect that Trump\u2019s decision to not endorse so far in Georgia has had on the candidates\u2019 behavior. He explained that Collins and Carter have mainly competed to be the most Trump-aligned candidate, while Dooley\u2019s behavior has looked a bit different, even though, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4406935\/mike-collins-jon-ossoff-new-ad-georgia-gop-primary\/\">three candidates have each all openly vied<\/a> for the president\u2019s endorsement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo of them, Collins and Carter, have been falling all over themselves to try to be the best MAGA candidate possible. Derek Dooley\u2019s a little bit different; he\u2019s sort of the Kemp-appointee,\u201d Hood said.<\/p>\n<p>Hood told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that as Kemp\u2019s pick to face Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jon-ossoff\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3194\">Jon Ossoff<\/a> (D-GA) in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/impossible-gop-picked-up-seats-in-house-picked-up-state-legislatures-picked-up-governorship-held-the-senate-but-sniffy-joe-won-not-a-chance\/\" title=\"IMPOSSIBLE: ... NOT A CHANCE\">general election<\/a>, Dooley has acted as if he\u2019s trying to \u201cstraddle the fence a little bit\u201d between Kemp and Trump, opting instead to talk about how he is a political outsider. Kemp and Trump have had quite the up-and-down relationship, with their ties souring in 2020 over Trump\u2019s loss in Georgia, then becoming <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/3136253\/kemp-focused-winning-small-distraction-trump-attacks\/\">strategically aligned once again in 2024<\/a>, as Trump flipped the state and won.<\/p>\n<p>Carter and Collins have each made Trump part of their central messaging. Carter has marketed himself as a \u201cMAGA Warrior,\u201d referencing a rally <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ygMNYLoBW2A\">speech<\/a> Trump made in which the President referred to Carter as a \u201cwarrior\u201d and \u201cgreat guy.\u201d Carter also made the front image of his website <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/buddycarter.com\/\">a photo with Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4406935\/mike-collins-jon-ossoff-new-ad-georgia-gop-primary\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4406935\">MIKE COLLINS ZEROES IN ON OSSOFF EARLY IN AD ROLLOUT DESPITE GOP PRIMARY FIGHT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Collins\u2019s campaign, whose slogan is \u201cGeorgia\u2019s Conservative Workforce,\u201d has a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MikeCollinsGA\/status\/1820188396062408972?s=20\">video pinned<\/a> at the top of his social media pages with Trump calling him a leader who has \u201cgot a future\u201d with \u201cthe look\u201d and \u201cgreat hair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not gonna waste your time. I\u2019m a conservative, pro-life, pro-gun, pro-Trump, God-fearing, truck-driving outsider,\u201d Collins said in his campaign announcement <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8NMPPAnco2A\">video<\/a>, followed by clips of Trump and Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"7658\">JD Vance<\/a> praising his work in the House.<\/p>\n<p>Dooley\u2019s most recent <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y-OhBMfLi5I\">video campaign ad<\/a> pins himself as a political outsider, while he talks about how he would work with Trump, for the citizens of Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need accountability: term limits, ban stock trading, end these government shutdowns,\u201d Dooley said of sitting Senators to a crowd of voters. \u201cUp there, I\u2019m going to work with President Trump, but for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump has steered clear of an endorsement in the Senate primary despite Kemp\u2019s decision to weigh in and his own decision to weigh in on the state\u2019s gubernatorial race. Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/burt-jones\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"21409\">Burt Jones<\/a> (R-GA) in the 2026 primary race for governor, despite Jones\u2019s challenge from another MAGA-hardliner, businessman <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/state\/4544367\/rick-jackson-burt-jones-gop-georgia-governor-poll\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4544367\">Rick Jackson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia will be a fascinating state to watch for pundits when its <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >primary election returns roll<\/a> in on Tuesday, May 19, given the crowded GOP primaries and endorsement dynamics at play.
