The courses were at risk after the Interior Department ended a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-to-close-potomac-golf-course-for-championship-level-renovations\/\" title=\"Trump to close Potomac ... course for championship-level renovations\">50-year lease held<\/a> by National Links Trust (NLT) in December.  <\/p>\n<p>Under the deal, the National Park Service, NLT, and other partners can begin renovations while pledging to make the courses affordable and accessible. East Potomac and the other two sites are public courses on federal land managed by NLT as 2020, and NLT said it will continue operating all three facilities.  <\/p>\n<p>The announcement follows litigation in which a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ny-health-care-upended-over-vax-mandate-hospital-stops-delivering-babies-er-closes-wait-times-explode\/\" title=\"NY Health Care Upended Over Vax Mandate: Hospital Stops Delivering Babies, ER Closes, Wait-Times Explode\">federal judge halted<\/a> the administration from closing the courses for construction, citing inadequate notice and concerns that required environmental review was not completed. The groups involved <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/reesejgorman\/status\/2052908031843680510\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/reesejgorman\/status\/2052908031843680510\">promised<\/a> to transform the parks \u201cinto the country\u2019s premier public golf courses, while keeping them affordable and accessible for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>East Potomac and the two other sites are all public courses, located on federal land managed by NLT since 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased that Washington, D.C.\u2019s municipal golf courses \u2026 will now remain open, accessible, and affordable for the residents and communities that depend on them,\u201d NLT co-founders Mike McCartin and Will Smith <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/links_national\/status\/2052916460742488467\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/links_national\/status\/2052916460742488467\">said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cNational Links Trust will continue operating all three courses, and we are committed to building on the progress we have made over the past five years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The announcement arrived a few days after a federal judge <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/4553388\/dc-judge-serious-consequences-east-potomac-golf-links-close-no-proper-notice\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/4553388\/dc-judge-serious-consequences-east-potomac-golf-links-close-no-proper-notice\/\">halted<\/a> the Trump administration from <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4552499\/trump-administration-close-potomac-golf-course-renovation\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4552499\/trump-administration-close-potomac-golf-course-renovation\/\">imminently closing<\/a> the golf courses for construction because the court hadn\u2019t been notified of any major changes in advance. Preservationists suing the federal government over the renovations since February were concerned that a necessary environmental review had been skipped.<\/p>\n<p>Dirt sampled from East Potomac tested positive for lead, mercury, chloroform, and other toxins, NPS concluded in a recent report. The dirt was contaminated by debris dumped from the White House\u2019s now-demolished East Wing to the nearby golf course. The judge is demanding more transparency from the administration regarding its golf course plans.<\/p>\n<p>The new and improved East Potomac location will feature a \u201ctop-tier 18-hole championship golf course capable of hosting pre-eminent tournament golf\u201d and catering to players \u201cof all abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With an emphasis on preserving the property\u2019s history, plans at Langston include a state-of-the-art learning facility in which young people can learn how to golf. Additionally, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-commanders\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8771\">Washington Commanders<\/a> are discussing a potential partnership with Langston.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the restoration project planned for Rock Creek is quite ambitious. NLT wants to build a new clubhouse, driving range, practice facilities, and maintenance facility.
