A house Judiciary subcommittee is planning a follow-up hearing about the Council on American-Islamic relations (CAIR), arguing that the group and similar organizations are promoting or funding ideas that the U.S.Constitution and U.S. law cannot accommodate. Republican Rep. Chip Roy-chair of the subcommittee-says Sharia law has no place in the United States and frames the hearing as exposing alleged efforts to undermine the rule of law.<\/p>\n

Roy\u2019s materials cite concerns about CAIR\u2019s associations with terrorist-linked groups<\/a> and cite claims of financial misconduct and misuse of federal grant money<\/a>. He has also proposed measures to bar CAIR from receiving federal funds<\/a>,including calls for CAIR to be designated as a terrorist association.
