At an earlier hearing, Robinson\u2019s lawyers argued cameras would undermine his ability to recieve a fair trial, while prosecutors urged open access to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >maintain public trust amid growing conspiracy theories<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson faces multiple charges related to Kirk\u2019s September killing at Utah Valley University, with the possibility of the death penalty. protected by the Constitution, neither does the Constitution ban electronic media simply because there is a danger that, in some cases, prejudicial broadcast accounts of pre-trial and trial events may impair the ability of jurors to decide the issue of guilt or innocence uninfluenced by extraneous matter,\u201d Graf said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>\u201cElectronic media coverage provides a means to facilitate the public\u2019s right of access to court proceedings for those who cannot physically occupy the limited space available in a courtroom,\u201d Graf said. \u201cLive streaming in particular, allows as many people as are interested to observe the justice system at work and hold our branches of government accountable to the guarantees of due process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Graf delayed the preliminary hearing from May 18, 19, and 21, to \u201cJuly 6, July 7, the afternoon of July 8, July 9, and July 10, 2026, in order to protect the defendant\u2019s constitutional rights while minimizing unnecessary delay and preserving the fair and impartial administration of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month, during a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4533811\/tyler-robinsons-lawyers-press-for-camera-ban-for-murder-trial\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4533811\/tyler-robinsons-lawyers-press-for-camera-ban-for-murder-trial\/\">hearing on the motions<\/a>, Robinson\u2019s lawyers brought two witnesses to the stand to support their assertion that having cameras in the courtroom would violate his right to a fair trial.<\/p>\n<p>State prosecutors argued that cameras should be allowed to support an \u201copen and transparent\u201d trial to ensure \u201cthe public will trust the process,\u201d expressing concern over the mounting conspiracy theories surrounding the case. The maximum punishment for the charges against\u00a0Robinson\u00a0includes the death penalty.<\/p>\n<p>Robinson\u2019s trial is expected to be one of the most closely watched criminal cases of the year, after the public killing of Kirk sent shockwaves through politics last year.
