Prosecutors filed a civil complaint in Miami arguing that rocha obtained citizenship through deception during the naturalization process in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/2021-cant-be-any-worse-can-it\/\" title=\"2021 Can&#039;t Be Any Worse, Can It?!\">late 1970s<\/a>-concealing ties to Cuba\u2019s Communist Party and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sidney-powell-is-an-american-legal-giant\/\" title=\"Sidney Powell Is an American Legal Giant\">making false statements<\/a> about allegiance to the U.S.  <\/p>\n<p>The DOJ also contends that Rocha was never eligible for citizenship because he engaged in unlawful activity, provided false testimony, and maintained affiliations while allegedly promoting communist ideology. He later pleaded guilty to conspiracy and acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government and is serving a 15-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>According to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/media\/1439951\/dl?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/media\/1439951\/dl?utm_medium=email&#038;utm_source=govdelivery\">complaint<\/a>, Rocha lied throughout the naturalization process in the late 1970s by concealing his ties to Cuba\u2019s Communist Party and falsely affirming allegiance to the U.S. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/constitution\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"424\">Constitution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Justice Department argued Rocha was never eligible for citizenship because he allegedly engaged in unlawful acts, provided false testimony during his naturalization interviews, maintained affiliations with Cuba\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/communist-party\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1481\">Communist<\/a> Party, and <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >promoted communist ideology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder no circumstances should an agent of a foreign adversary be permitted to hold the title of American citizen,\u201d Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate said in a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdfl\/pr\/justice-department-sues-revoke-us-citizenship-convicted-cuban-spy\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdfl\/pr\/justice-department-sues-revoke-us-citizenship-convicted-cuban-spy\">statement<\/a>, adding that the department is committed to removing citizenship from people who obtained it through fraud or deception.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/premium\/4555886\/is-cuba-next-trump-regime-change-agenda\/\"><strong>IS CUBA NEXT ON TRUMP\u2019S REGIME-CHANGE AGENDA?<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Federal prosecutors also emphasized Rocha\u2019s high-ranking status within the U.S. government, noting he served as both an ambassador and senior national security official while allegedly operating on behalf of the Cuban government.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Jason Reding Quinones described Rocha as \u201cone of the most prolific Cuban spies ever uncovered in the United States\u201d and said the denaturalization effort is intended to complete the government\u2019s case against him.
