Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) introduced a resolution to amend House rules,arguing that members shouldn\u2019t profit using insider knowledge of events they influence. Hinson urged House GOP leadership to bring the measure to the floor before the House returns from recess on May 12, and her resolution woudl also call on the White House and the judiciary to adopt comparable restrictions. <\/p>\n<p>The Senate already passed a similar ban unanimously last week, championed by Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH). The push comes amid growing concern as high-profile bets on <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >political events reportedly produced large winnings<\/a>, including examples cited from Polymarket. Examiner<\/em> has reached out to Speaker Mike Johnson\u2019s (R-LA) office for comment. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMembers of Congress shouldn\u2019t be able to use insider knowledge to make a profit,\u201d Hinson said in a statement. \u201cWe should take immediate action to ensure DC politicians can\u2019t make money off of policies they are influencing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hinson\u2019s resolution also calls on both the White House and the judicial branch to establish similar rules for themselves. <\/p>\n<p>The Senate passed a similar measure unanimously last week that banned senators and Senate employees from using prediction market platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnited States Senators have no business engaging in speculative activities like prediction markets while collecting a taxpayer-funded paycheck, period,\u201d Sen Bernie Moreno (R-OH), who spearheaded the legislation, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.moreno.senate.gov\/press-releases\/moreno-resolution-banning-senators-from-using-prediction-markets-passes-unanimously\/\">said<\/a> in a statement.\u00a0\u201cServing in Congress should never be about finding new ways to profit; it should be about delivering results for the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Concerns over the use of prediction markets have steadily grown over the last several months after a series of high-profile bets on political events netted individuals thousands of dollars in winnings. <\/p>\n<p>One Polymarket user, with the username \u201cMagamyman,\u201d made <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/03\/01\/nx-s1-5731568\/polymarket-trade-iran-supreme-leader-killing\">more than $553,000<\/a> for betting that Iranian Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be out of power hours before U.S. strikes killed him on Feb. 28.\u00a0Another Polymarket user won over $400,000 on bets related to Venezuela in the lead up to the U.S.\u2019s capture of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>The bets have sparked several pieces of legislation on Capitol Hill to rein in prediction markets.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a
