Tate Reeves (R-Mississippi) outlined a broad redistricting agenda, signaling that the GOP may redraw not only Mississippi\u2019s Supreme Court districts but also legislative and congressional maps. He said he originally called a special session for Supreme Court redistricting after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/as-gas-prices-set-new-records-biden-nukes-more-oil-and-gas-projects\/\" title=\"As Gas Prices Set New Records, Biden Nukes More Oil And Gas Projects\">federal court ordered<\/a> the state\u2019s Supreme Court district lines redrawn in response to claims under the Voting rights Act that the current map diluted Black voting power.  <\/p>\n<p>Reeves also referenced the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in *Louisiana v. Callais*, which made it harder to prioritize race in redistricting, implying Republicans will re-examine the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >majority-minority congressional district represented<\/a> by Rep. Bennie Thompson. Tate Reeves (R-MS) on Wednesday previewed his agenda for redistricting in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mississippi\/\">Mississippi<\/a>, revealing he is eying redrawing a host of electoral maps, including the state\u2019s legislative and congressional districts. <\/p>\n<p>Reeves said in late April he was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4542991\/mississippi-governor-special-session-judicial-redistricting\/\">calling a special session<\/a> to look at redrawing Mississippi\u2019s judicial maps, through changing the boundaries of the state Supreme Court district lines. In August 2025, a federal court ordered the lines of these three districts redrawn. The plaintiffs in the case, residents of District 1 \u2014 called the Central District \u2014 argued that the lines <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/assets.aclu.org\/live\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2025.08.19.d-ORDER-AND.pdf\">violated Section 2<\/a> of the Voting Rights Act \u201cby illegally diluting the votes of Black citizens in the Central District.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union alleged that the district lines, which cut the Mississippi Delta in two, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/press-releases\/federal-court-orders-mississippi-supreme-court-district-lines-be-redrawn\">split black voters<\/a>, thus preventing black judges from being elected. Callais<\/em>, the majority of justices agreed that states should be given more freedom to redraw political maps without <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-says-tennessee-next-to-redistrict-after-supreme-court-ruling\/\" title=\"Trump says Tennessee next to re... after Supreme Court ruling\">prioritizing racial outcomes<\/a>, marking a setback for race-based districting. <\/p>\n<p>In Mississippi, Reeves argued that <em>Callais<\/em> \u201creaffirms what we\u2019ve known all along, which is that all Americans, regardless of race, are equal.\u201d He suggested Republicans will push to redraw the state\u2019s one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-some-democrats-concerned-their-voting-rights-bill-might-be-racist\/\" title=\"Report: Some Democrats Concerned Their \u2018Voting Rights\u2019 Bill Might Be Racist\">majority-minority district<\/a> represented by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), a move that would boost the GOP\u2019s margin of power in the House. Still, the governor emphasized that no congressional redistricting plans are final. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that Mississippi\u2019s majority-minority district was drawn race-consciously,\u201d Reeves said. \u201cI anticipate that the Mississippi Legislature certainly will reevaluate our state\u2019s congressional map at the earliest opportunity that they have.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mississippi is not the only red state emphasizing redistricting in the wake of <em>Callais.<\/em> Republicans in Georgia <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/4555486\/kemp-carter-georgia-redistricting-pressure\/\">are pressuring<\/a> Gov.
