return false;\" title=\"Printer Friendly, PDF &#038; Email\"><span id=\"printfriendly-text2\" class=\"pf-button-text\"><i class=\"mdi mdi-printer\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/i><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s Department of Justice and FBI were aware that the Southern Poverty Law Center was paying \u201cinformants\u201d in the KKK \u2014 and according to former Obama official Norm Eisen, that apparently means donors have nothing to be upset about. <\/p>\n<p>The SPLC (which has spent years demonizing conservatives, including The Federalist) was indicted by a federal grand jury last month for wire fraud and conspiracy to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-henry-cuellar-releases-statement-after-being-indicted-on-federal-charges\/\" title=\"Henry Cuellar, a Democrat, Issues Statement Post Federal Charges Indictment\">commit concealment money laundering<\/a>. The SPLC allegedly funneled millions of dollars it received via donations to pay \u201ca covert network of informants\u201d who were part of \u201cviolent extremist groups\u201d such as groups like the KKK. The press release for the indictment alleges that SPLC did not disclose to its donors that \u201csome of their donated money was being used to fund the leaders and organizers of racist groups at the same time that the SPLC was denouncing the same groups on its website.\u201d Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/federal-grand-jury-charges-southern-poverty-law-center-wire-fraud-false-statements-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement that SPLC was \u201cmanufacturing racism to justify its existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1805775094\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>But during a virtual press conference Wednesday held by Democracy Defenders Fund, Eisen suggested the SPLC defrauding donors by funding the KKK could not have been wrong because Biden\u2019s justice agencies were aware of it. <\/p>\n<p>Associate Attorney General in the Biden administration Vanita Gupta noted that the indictment describes \u201cthe SPLC\u2019s paid informant program inside extremist organizations\u201d which \u201c[as] acting AG Blanche has confirmed, regularly shared information with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/d-c-mayor-congress-must-open-a-probe-into-security-failures-at-u-s-capitol\/\" title=\"D.C. Mayor: Congress must open a probe into security failures at U.S. Capitol\">federal law enforcement<\/a>, which I can attest to, having been the beneficiary and having our federal prosecutors been the beneficiary of this type of intel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>(Gupta unironically said SPLC has been working to \u201ckeep communities safe from violence and racially motivated terror\u201d despite themselves funding racially motivated terror.)<\/p>\n<p>Eisen then chimed in to suggest that the \u201cgrand jury transcripts must be released\u201d so that it can be determined whether the grand jury knew that \u201cthe Department of Justice and FBI knew that informants were being utilized and paid by, uh, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/21\/grand-jury-indicts-southern-poverty-law-center-for-secret-fraudulent-payments-to-racist-groups\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SPLC<\/a>, the whole basis of this indictment\u201d \u2014 as if collusion with the federal government makes the funding permissible.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe claim that SPLC committed financial crimes, when what they\u2019re accused of, using paid informants, is common practice across law enforcement agencies, uh, it does not hold water. That\u2019s particularly true, because, as you\u2019ve heard today, what SPLC was doing was known to the DOJ, and the FBI,\u201d Eisen added. <\/p>\n<p>But just because it was known to the DOJ and FBI doesn\u2019t make the SPLC\u2019s actions right. According to the DOJ\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/federal-grand-jury-charges-southern-poverty-law-center-wire-fraud-false-statements-and\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>, the SPLC obtained \u201cmoney via donations through materially false representations and omissions about what the donated funds would be used for.\u201d The SPLC allegedly \u201copened bank accounts connected to a series of fictitious entities\u201d to \u201ccovertly\u201d pay the individuals involved in the scheme. The DOJ alleges such covert accounts \u201callowed the SPLC to disguise the true nature, source, ownership, and control of the fraudulently obtained donated money the SPLC paid the individuals.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
