Before the war, about 20% of the global oil supply passed through the strait. And around 80% of the oil that typically passes through the strait is bound for Asian markets, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/about\/oil-security-and-emergency-response\/strait-of-hormuz\">International Energy Agency<\/a>. Some of those Asian buyers have turned to the U.S. in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Port of Corpus Christi CEO Kent Britton told <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/05\/03\/us-crude-oil-exports-surge-to-record-as-tankers-flock-to-gulf-coast.html\">CNBC<\/a> earlier this week that oil exports from the port have increased to about 2.5 million barrels per day since the war began, compared to 2.2 million barrels per day last year. <\/p>\n<p>He added that ship traffic in Corpus Christi rose to more than 240 vessels in March, compared to the 200 the port normally sees the same month. \u201cIt\u2019s a constant parade of tankers coming in and out,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n<p>One major U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/opec-to-meet-to-discuss-oil-production-quotas-for-september\/\" title=\"OPEC+ to Meet to Discuss ... Production Quotas for September\">shale oil producer<\/a>, Diamondback Energy, said this week it would immediately increase production in light of the higher oil prices caused by the war. \u201cWe believe there is a legitimate supply-demand imbalance and that the associated price signal is the catalyst to begin to grow production,\u201d CEO Kaes Van\u2019t Hof wrote in a letter to shareholders, as <em>Bloomberg <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-05-04\/us-driller-diamondback-raising-output-immediately-on-oil-rally\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Major producers Exxon Mobil and Chevron, however, have so far <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4551370\/exxon-mobil-chevron-resist-trump-call-boost-output\/\">held off on<\/a> boosting supply, despite entreaties from the Trump administration to drill more. <\/p>\n<p>U.S. oil exports cannot fully replace the loss of Middle Eastern supply, leaving countries in Asia and Europe to conserve energy or turn to other energy sources, such as coal. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, U.S. consumers are facing elevated gasoline prices, and the public is beginning to blame President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The average price of a gallon of gas nationwide hit $4.54 today, according to AAA, which is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/gas-prices-450-when-will-gas-prices-go-down\/\">the highest<\/a> since 2022, when Republicans were blaming President Joe Biden for high prices. <\/p>\n<p>A new NPR\/PBS News\/Marist <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2026\/05\/06\/nx-s1-5810555\/trump-iran-gas-prices-midterms-polling\">poll<\/a> found about 63% of respondents blame Trump for the current increase in gas prices, which includes a third of Republicans.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4553855\/doj-sues-block-minnesota-climate-lawsuit-fossil-fuel-companies\/\"><strong>DOJ SUES TO BLOCK MINNESOTA CLIMATE LAWSUIT AGAINST FOSSIL FUEL COMPANIES<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The president promised during his campaign to bring gas prices down to below $2.
