A 45-year-old man from Midland, Texas, identified as Michael Marx, was charged after shots were fired at Secret Service agents as the motorcade of vice President J.D. Vance passed near the Washington Monument on Monday. A teenage bystander was wounded.<\/p>\n

According to federal statements<\/a> and an affidavit, a plainclothes agent suspected Marx was concealing a firearm as the motorcade approached. Uniformed officers eventually confronted Marx at a crosswalk, where the affidavit says he produced a handgun while running across the street and fired toward an officer while a civilian witness was behind the officer.During the exchange,the teenager was hit wiht a graze wound described as resulting from a ricochet. Officers returned fire, striking Marx in multiple places.<\/p>\n

Marx,who had a Texas driver\u2019s license and was reportedly known by aliases,was taken to George Washington University Hospital and was said to have made unfriendly remarks toward the White House while being transported.Authorities recovered a loaded 9 mm Sig Sauer P365 and said he lacked a license to carry a gun in Washington,D.C. <\/p>\n
