The article claims Fox News co-host Greg Gutfeld reacted with strong criticism, arguing that empathy toward someone accused of political violence is misplaced.

It further argues that this kind of leniency reflects broader political and cultural acceptance of political violence, presenting the idea that “empathy” is being reframed in a way that benefits the guilty rather than protecting victims. The piece then uses another example, stating that a Kentucky judge (Tracy Davis) reduced the sentence of a convicted rapist/kidnapper, attributing mitigation to the offender’s race and systemic issues.
