Comey previously faced an indictment that was dismissed, the Department of Justice has now indicted him again-this time in the Eastern District of north Carolina-charging him with limited offenses involving alleged threats against the President. It says these threats stem from images of seashells arranged to encode \u201c86 47,\u201d which the author interprets as \u201ckill\u201d and \u201cTrump\u201d (as the 47th president).<\/p>\n<p>The author argues the new charges reflect a petty, vindictive campaign and then pivots to a broader critique of Comey\u2019s conduct while directing the FBI. The piece alleges Comey acted improperly during the Clinton email matter, improperly framed and worded statements that treated uncharged activity as though it were wrongdoing, and relied on questionable foundations to justify the FBI\u2019s \u201cRussian collusion\u201d inquiry into the Trump campaign-describing the initial trigger as little more than a secondhand report from an alleged allied source.It further contends that Comey and his inner circle proceeded without adequate probable cause, mischaracterized or overstated uncertainty about key informants, leaked sensitive information, and helped enable intrusive surveillance (including a FISA warrant against Carter Page) by presenting misleading or unreliable information while disregarding exculpatory material.<\/p>\n<p>the text portrays Comey as the worst FBI director in history, concluding that-regardless of the outcome of the current case-his legacy will be negative.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Last week, the Department of Justice announced that former FBI director James B. Comey has been again indicted by a Federal Grand Jury, this time in the Eastern District of North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>The criminal offenses charged against Comey are precise and limited; two counts of threating harm to the President. They involve his posting of images of seashells arranged as \u201c86 47.\u201d 86 being slang for kill and Trump being the 47<sup>th<\/sup> president.<\/p>\n<p>Kash Patel, the current FBI director, commented that Comey \u201cdisgracefully encouraged a threat on President Trump\u2019s life and posted it on Instagram for the world to see.\u201d However, many have opined that the current charges are petty and vindictive.<\/p>\n<p>Comey\u2019s defense team may be able to get the charges dismissed, or Comey may be found not guilty. Last November a different indictment against Comey was tossed out by a judge in Virginia, who ruled that the U.S. attorney overseeing it had been unlawfully appointed. Nonetheless, there certainly was plenty of malfeasance and misfeasance on Comey\u2019s part during his tenure as FBI director, starting with the Clinton email case and continuing with the entire Russian collusion chimera.<\/p>\n<p>In his overwhelming arrogance, Comey usurped the role of a prosecutor by announcing, in July 2016, that no charges would be brought against Clinton in the email case. At the same time he announced there would be no charges, he besmirched the uncharged Clinton by delivering a litany of her irresponsible conduct. An inspector general\u2019s report criticized him for these actions and then Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein cited this in a memo justifying Comey\u2019s firing. Rosenstein asserted that the FBI must have \u201ca Director who understands the gravity of his mistakes and pledges never to repeat.\u201d But he saw no hope for Comey.<\/p>\n<p>In his book, Comey described the sole origin of the FBI\u2019s investigation of the Trump campaign as a report \u201cfrom an allied ambassador\u201d of a conversation in London between a Trump adviser and \u201ca Russian agent.\u201d This is his characterization of George Papadopoulos\u2019 meeting with Joseph Mifsud, who told the Trump aide the Russians had \u201cdirt\u201d on Hillary Clinton. Comey has piously huffed that it would have been \u201cdereliction\u201d not to proceed with an investigation. But proceeding with an intrusive investigation based on so little was an abuse.<\/p>\n<p>A secondhand rumor should never be enough to justify opening an investigation of any American, much less a presidential candidate. This off-hand conversation initiated an investigation that plagued the presidency. Like directors before him, Comey should have said, \u201cWe need more probable cause.\u201d Instead, Comey had the Bureau pursue an investigation that impacted more than one US citizen without sufficient predicate.<\/p>\n<p>Comey tried to bolster his case by branding Mifsud a Russian agent, which is still far from certain. In that first encounter, there was no mention of emails. Only after the WikiLeaks disclosures was an assumption made by both Australian High Commissioner Alexander Downer, Comey\u2019s \u201callied ambassador,\u201d and Papadopoulos, that the \u201cdirt\u201d was in the emails.<\/p>\n<p>Comey later tried to dodge responsibility by claiming it all happened \u201cseven levels below\u201d him. That is simply not true. Peter Strzok, Deputy Assistant Director for Counterintelligence, drafted and signed out the communication initiating the probe. Strzok\u2019s texts demonstrate that he answered to Andrew McCabe, who was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-joe-biden-slips-and-refers-to-kamala-harris-as-president-elect-saying-quiet-part-out-loud\/\" title=\"WATCH: Joe Biden Slips and Refers to Kamala Harris as \u2018President...Elect\u2019\u2026 Saying \u2018Quiet Part\u2019 Out Loud\u2019?\">deputy director<\/a> and Comey\u2019s direct report. It was McCabe who set up the interview with General Michael Flynn, and it was Strzok who conducted the interview. These people were not seven levels below Comey. They were his inner circle.<\/p>\n<p>It was Comey who wrote a memo of his conversation with Trump and then leaked it. He, and only he, did that. What was he thinking? Here was the FBI director trying to incriminate the president. Again, an inspector general\u2019s report criticized this action as an \u201cunauthorized disclosure of sensitive investigative information\u201d and misuse of FBI documents to \u201cachieve a personally desired outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the FBI\u2019s collusion investigation progressed, it used a FISA warrant against Carter Page, a member of Trump\u2019s campaign. Comey justified the electronic surveillance of Page, a US citizen, by writing that a federal judge granted \u201cpermission.\u201d We now know that the FISA Court was seriously misled. The previous FBI standards for these intrusive warrants were ignored. Exculpatory material was disregarded, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >blatantly fabricated dossier provided<\/a> by Christopher Steele was used for probable cause. Comey, who signed three of the four applications for FISA coverage on Carter Page, is accountable for this malfeasance and misfeasance as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrossfire Hurricane,\u201d Comey\u2019s baseless investigation of a presidential campaign, was the most damaging action to the FBI\u2019s reputation in history. The Attorney General Guidelines require \u201cpredicate information,\u201d i.e., articulable facts, for the initiation of an FBI investigation. Special Counsel John Durham\u2019s report concluded that Crossfire Hurricane\u2019s origin did not meet this threshold.<\/p>\n<p>Even if the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/its-not-a-great-look-if-you-google-how-to-dispose-of-a-womans-body-and-then-your-wife-goes-missing\/\" title=\"It\u2019s Not A Great Look If You Google How To Dispose Of A Woman\u2019s Body And Then Your Wife Goes Missing\">current criminal case<\/a> against Comey is dismissed, or if he is found not guilty, he will still stand convicted by history as the worst FBI director ever.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Thomas J.
