They have to, they don\u2019t have weapons,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>He then brought up the thousands of unarmed protesters who were killed in December and January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey lost 42,000, to be exact. 42,000 people in about a two-week period. Protesters, innocent, unarmed protesters,\u201d Trump said. \u201cSo we\u2019re not dealing with, you know, your typical people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president then shifted his perspective, suggesting that the U.S. could obliterate the rest of the Iranian military in the first few hours of the resumption of hostilities, despite Tehran having used the ceasefire to partially reconstitute its forces.<\/p>\n<p>The interview shifted away from the question, but Trump returned to the issue of arming Iranians later on when asked who would benefit from taking Iran\u2019s oil.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people of Iran, so look, if they had guns, which they don\u2019t have, if they had guns, you know, guns were sent, and other people took those guns,\u201d he said, referring to claims that Kurdish militants had taken the weapons for themselves. \u201cIf they had guns, they would fight back. I\u2019m convinced of that. But you know, you can\u2019t have an unarmed population against people with AK-47\u2019s and stand there, even if you have 250,000 people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo you know, you started it off by asking me, \u2018Would I like to see them [armed]?\u2019 And I\u2019m very torn on it, because they lost 42,000 people in the first two weeks,\u201d Trump continued. \u201cI don\u2019t really want to see that. They have to have guns. And I think they\u2019re getting some guns. As soon as they have guns, they\u2019ll fight like, as good as anybody there is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Previous reports claimed that Trump disagreed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s suggestion to arm the Iranian people to facilitate an armed uprising, fearful that the unorganized populace wouldn\u2019t stand a chance against the well-disciplined Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. But Trump\u2019s next comments suggested that his calculations had changed, privy to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4491652\/iran-finance-death-blow-war\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4491652\">structural and financial pressure being exerted<\/a> on the Guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have very good weapons on the other side \u2026 now they\u2019ve been depleted,\u201d he said. \u201cA lot of the people fighting don\u2019t want to fight anymore. They\u2019re not getting paid anymore from what I\u2019m hearing, because we have obliterated them like, in the military, we\u2019ve done the same thing to them financially, economically. We don\u2019t think they\u2019re paying their soldiers and their Guard anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4491652\/iran-finance-death-blow-war\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"4491652\">IRAN FACES FINANCIAL DEATH BLOW BECAUSE OF WAR<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo they\u2019ve got a lot of problems, but we\u2019ll see what happens,\u201d Trump added. \u201cWe have all the cards. We have all the cards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Monday saw the first major violations of the weekslong ceasefire, with Iran firing a large missile barrage against the United Arab Emirates, and U.S. and Iranian forces exchanging fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
