The suspects allegedly voted in the 2020 presidential election, 2022 midterms, and 2024 presidential election cycles.  <\/p>\n<div id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1200497773\" class=\"d-flex justify-content-center fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 fdrlst__b89e9-entity-placement\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The arrests only underscore the need for the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act. The SAVE America Act would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require documentary proof of citizenship in order to register to vote and voter ID to cast a ballot in federal elections. As of right now, the only thing standing between a noncitizen and casting a vote is a tiny square box on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/six-noncitizens-indicted-for-allegedly-voting\/\" title=\"Six ... Indicted For ...\">federal registration form requiring<\/a> an applicant attest under penalty of perjury that they are telling the truth about their citizenship status (in other words, the honor system).<\/p>\n<p>The legislation passed the House but has stalled in the Senate. Just recently Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) claimed on X that Senate Majority Leader John Thune was \u201cno longer considering the SAVE America Act.\u201d A congressional source, however, told <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/21\/sources-save-america-act-not-dead-yet-still-the-pending-business-in-the-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Federalist\u2019s Matt Kittle<\/a> that Luna\u2019s comments were \u201cnot true\u201d and that the legislation is \u201cstill the pending business in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[READNEXT:[READNEXT:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/09\/these-4-states-already-enacted-save-act-look-alikes-while-john-thune-does-failure-theater\/\">These 4 States Already Enacted SAVE Act Look-Alikes While John Thune Does Failure Theater<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Punchbowl News\u2019 Andrew Desiderio reported that Thune said he would see \u201cabout getting [the SAVE America Act] going\u201d \u201cif we don\u2019t have other pressing stuff in front of us that has to get done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But what could be more pressing than an insecure election system that makes it possible for noncitizens to register to vote and vote? <\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s charges aren\u2019t the first levied against noncitizens for allegedly voting in elections \u2014 and they certainly won\u2019t be the last.<\/p>\n<p>Just this past January, Alabama found <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/01\/06\/25-noncitizens-voted-in-alabama-officials-find-after-trump-gave-states-access-to-alien-database\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">25 noncitizens<\/a> had illegally cast a ballot while there were 186 noncitizens who were registered to vote. Alabama was able to detect the alleged illegal activity using the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) Program that <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >lets states cross-reference voter rolls<\/a> in their state with federal records.
