Jonathan Gerlach, a 34-year-old man from eastern Pennsylvania, has been charged in connection with alleged grave robberies across the Philadelphia area. prosecutors say he stole more than 100 sets of human remains-ranging from skulls and bones to entire bodies-from cemeteries, including Mount Moriah Cemetery (covering Philadelphia and Delaware counties) as well as graves in Lancaster and Luzerne counties. <\/p>\n

Investigators allege Gerlach transported the remains back to his home in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and faced charges including multiple counts<\/a> of burglary and criminal trespass, abuse of a corpse, receiving stolen property<\/a>, and intentional desecration of a public monument. The reported incidents are said to have occurred between nov. 7, 2025, and Jan. 6, 2026, and surveillance purportedly caught him leaving a cemetery with items such as a burlap sack and a crowbar, with skulls and bones found in his car. <\/p>\n

A family member whose ancestor\u2019s remains were allegedly taken appeared in court and said the examination left families expecting the graves were permanently disrupted, noting that confirming identities would require extensive work. <\/p>\n
