Callais* that struck down certain race-based redistricting.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama is currently operating under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-biden-aides-privately-relieved-courts-reinstated-remain-in-mexico-policy-amid-border-crisis\/\" title=\"Report: Biden Aides Privately \u2018Relieved... Policy Amid Border Crisis\">federal court order<\/a> that blocks use of new congressional maps through mid-decade redistricting until after the 2030 census, but Ivey says the legislature can act quickly if the injunction is lifted. But Ivey is hopeful that the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling in<em> Louisiana v. Callais<\/em> will bode well for her state\u2019s case.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the ruling, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall filed emergency motions with the Supreme Court to take up the state\u2019s redistricting case. Ivey said the move prompted her to call a special session of the state legislature.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy calling the Legislature into a special session, I am ensuring Alabama is prepared should the courts act quickly enough to allow Alabama\u2019s previously drawn congressional and state senate maps to be used during this election cycle,\u201d she wrote in the proclamation. \u201cIf the court-ordered injunction is lifted, Alabama would revert to the maps drawn by the Legislature for congressional districts in 2023 and state senate districts in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Alabama Republican Party praised Ivey for calling back lawmakers to take up redrawing the state\u2019s congressional map.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ruling reinforced what we have long argued \u2014 that redistricting should be guided by fair, constitutional principles and not driven by race,\u201d Alabama GOP Chairman and state Rep. Gerrymandered ..., State Senate Maps\">give lawmakers time<\/a> to consider GOP-led redistricting. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tennessee\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"600\">Tennessee<\/a> is also moving toward redistricting, President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> confirmed on Thursday after speaking with Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/georgia\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"164\">Georgia<\/a> is not planning to redraw congressional district boundaries this year because Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brian-kemp\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3312\">Brian Kemp<\/a> (R-GA) thought doing so would cut too close to the state\u2019s May 19 primary. Early voting for that election already started this week.
