Officials said they were notified around 7:20 a.m. about the approximately 15-by-30-foot spray-painting, which was later covered while cleanup was arranged. Authorities described the act as unacceptable on federal land and said the case is actively under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c86\u201d reference is commonly associated with the restaurant industry meaning \u201cget rid of,\u201d and some Republicans have interpreted \u201c86 47\u201d as a threat aimed at Donald Trump, who is described as the 47th president. (Photo by Graeme Jennings\/Washington Examiner)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Andrew Leyden, a media freelancer based in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"260\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, spotted police activity around the reflecting pool, noting there have been recent reports of graffiti and signs spotted on the site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo areas of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool are covered by tarps this morning, and US Park Police are on scene talking to workers and apparently looking for evidence,\u201d Leyden <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PenguinSix\/status\/2050212941497073769\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PenguinSix\/status\/2050212941497073769\">posted on X<\/a>. \u201cUnknown what happened, but the construction site has reportedly had some graffiti over the last few days, and the \u2018Thank You Trump\u2019 banners have been removed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The incident comes as the reflecting pool on the National Mall is undergoing renovations.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/interior-department\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"16456\">Interior Department<\/a> is working to update the landmark by installing a blue surface at the bottom of the pool. The new color is supposed to match the American flag.
