MKUltra was born out of the CIA\u2019s Project Bluebird, and involved behavioral research projects, including ones that sought to develop mind control drugs or \u201ctruth serum.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>In the top-secret <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lrb.co.uk\/the-paper\/v43\/n03\/mike-jay\/lace-the-air-with-lsd\">Project Artichoke<\/a>, the CIA experimented with using drugs such as LSD, including on subjects without their knowledge. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/1999\/mar\/11\/guardianobituaries2\">Sidney Gottlieb<\/a>, who was head of the chemical division of the CIA\u2019s technical services, oversaw much of MKUltra, often experimenting with unknowing subjects, including prisoners, mental patients, and prostitutes. <\/p>\n<p>Luna has vowed to investigate the program after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3317191\/anna-paulina-luna-head-task-force-aimed-uncovering-federal-secrets\/\">being appointed<\/a> to lead the six-month Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets in February. The panel is probing a number of events, including the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F.
