The referendum had narrowly passed, and Democrats reportedly sought control of new congressional maps that would dramatically advantage them.In Wisconsin, a three-judge panel dismissed another left-leaning lawsuit aimed at reshaping congressional districts to boost democrats, marking another rejection of attempts to overturn maps produced by a commission chosen by Democratic leadership.

The biggest development came from the U.S.Supreme Court on Wednesday. In *louisiana v. Callais*, the Court (6-3) ruled against race-based “gerrymandering” in congressional districting under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, saying courts cannot use race as a factor in drawing districts in a way that amounts to the discriminatory conduct the Constitution forbids. The piece frames this as a major shift limiting how race can be used to comply with the Voting Rights Act. Supporters characterize it as restoring constitutional limits; critics, including civil-rights advocates and news media, call it a devastating weakening of voting protections.

The article also includes reactions from prominent Democrats and others, arguing that such decisions would enable legislatures to dilute minority voting power under a legal pretext.
