Ron DeSantis, a move designed to give Republicans a 24-4 advantage in the state\u2019s U.S. house delegation-likely netting four additional GOP seats. After the state House vote, the bill moves to the Florida state senate, where it is expected to pass; however, at least four GOP senators oppose it, meaning seven would need to defect for it to fail.<\/p>\n<p>The map resulted from a special legislative session DeSantis called for redistricting, along with other policy goals (including vaccine exemptions and AI regulation) that were blocked by House speaker Daniel Perez. Shortly after the session started on Tuesday, though, Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez (R) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/4546764\/desantis-florida-speaker-ai-vaccine-bills\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/4546764\/desantis-florida-speaker-ai-vaccine-bills\/\">blocked<\/a> the two bills.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis and Perez have <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/3444318\/florida-115-billion-budget-desantis-perez-feud\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/3444318\/florida-115-billion-budget-desantis-perez-feud\/\">long feuded<\/a> over certain policies, but they were aligned on adding four more Republican-friendly districts to the state ahead of the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/midterm-elections\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"308\">midterm elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The move came just over one week after <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/virginia\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"96\">Virginia<\/a> passed a redistricting referendum that would likely give Democrats a 10-1 edge in the commonwealth.
