Robert Garcia (D-CA) said Democrats have had no communication from Bondi or the Justice Department about her planned attendance,and the Oversight Democrats posted that they introduced contempt proceedings,arguing her knowledge about the Trump management\u2019s handling of the Epstein files makes her testimony significant. Robert Garcia (D-CA), told reporters Wednesday that Democrats on the panel will try to hold Bondi in contempt for not showing up for her deposition, which was meant to be on April 14. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Garcia said he and his colleagues have received \u201czero communication\u201d from Bondi, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/justice-department\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"167\">Justice Department<\/a>, or <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-republicans\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"13\">Republicans<\/a> on the panel regarding the former attorney general\u2019s attendance. <\/p>\n<p>The Oversight Democrats\u2019 X <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OversightDems\/status\/2049479253566067168?s=20\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OversightDems\/status\/2049479253566067168?s=20\">account posted a statement<\/a> that said the group has introduced a contempt resolution.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBondi has extensive knowledge about the Trump Administration\u2019s handling of the Epstein files, and regardless of her job title, her testimony and cooperation are crucial,\u201d the statement said. \u201cOversight Democrats are taking the lead on holding Bondi in contempt because Chairman [James] Comer is trying to run out the clock, and we refuse to let this Administration stop our investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>House Oversight Republicans <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/2049483068818301252?s=20\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GOPoversight\/status\/2049483068818301252?s=20\">responded to a statement<\/a> put out by oversight Democrats, condemning their statement on Bondi as \u201ctheater and completely unnecessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, oversight Republicans said Bondi will appear before the panel on May 29.<\/p>\n<p>Bondi\u2019s subpoena was approved in March following a push headed by Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nancy-mace\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2548\">Nancy Mace<\/a> (R-SC), with support from four Republicans and all the Democrats on the investigative panel. <\/p>\n<p>In her final weeks as attorney general, Bondi testified before Congress and acknowledged her mistakes in handling the release of the Epstein files, and her tenure was stained by the DOJ not pursuing additional prosecutions of alleged associates.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia, who is viewed as the top option to chair the committee if Democrats take control of the House in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/midterm-elections\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"308\">midterm elections<\/a>, also <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/news.bgov.com\/bloomberg-government-news\/miller-noem-called-high-on-subpoena-list-if-democrats-win-house\">told <em>Bloomberg Government<\/em> <\/a>he plans to subpoena several former and current high-ranking GOP figures if the general election in November turns in his party\u2019s favor. <\/p>\n<p>White House adviser <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/stephen-miller\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2967\">Stephen Miller<\/a>, former Homeland Security Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kristi-noem\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3710\">Kristi Noem<\/a>, and her former associate, Corey Lewandowski, were on Garcia\u2019s list of possible subpoenas if Democrats retake the House.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia also said his \u201caggressive agenda\u201d would include continuing investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, and what he called \u201cTrump family corruption,\u201d and corporations\u2019 misconduct.
