The company is set to dissolve, wiht its role replaced by Knoa Pharma, as the DOJ\u2019s criminal case against Purdue concludes.<\/p>\n<p>Of the roughly $5.5 billion in liabilities, $225 million will go to the Justice Department, while the remainder will fund settlements tied to thousands of opioid-related lawsuits. The acting attorney general saeid the punishment reflects efforts to hold companies accountable for conduct contributing to the opioid crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The settlement also requires the Sackler family to contribute $6.5 billion. The rest of the liabilities will be used in settlement payments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPurdue Pharma put profits over patient health and safety,\u201d Blanche said in a statement. \u201cThe company willfully rejected the law and ignored the diversion of their highly addictive prescription drugs. Their actions contributed to the opioid crisis that claimed countless lives and destroyed entire families and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sentencing allows Purdue Pharma to move forward with its settlement payments related to the thousands of individual opioid-related lawsuits filed against the company.
