The figure marked a 22% increase over the first quarter of 2025. Without the tariff refund, the adjusted earnings would have still been up by about 7.5% from the same time last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur EBIT-adjusted of $4.3 billion surpassed our expectations even after excluding a $500 million tariff adjustment following a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision,\u201d GM CEO Mary Barra <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/investor.gm.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/q1-2026-letter-shareholders\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/investor.gm.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/q1-2026-letter-shareholders\">wrote in a letter<\/a> to shareholders. \u201cTo reflect the flow-through of this adjustment, we are raising our full\u2011year EBIT\u2011adjusted guidance by $500 million, to a range of $13.5 billion to $15.5 billion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The automaker paid about $900 million in tariffs during the first quarter of 2026 after paying roughly $3.1 billion in tariffs last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have solid momentum in our core operations,\u201d Barra said, touting the company\u2019s sales of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gm-halting-pickup-truck-production-in-indiana-due-to-chip-shortage\/\" title=\"GM Halting Pickup Truck Production in Indiana Due to Chip Shortage\">full-size pickup trucks<\/a> in the United States and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>GM\u2019s first-quarter revenue, however, was slightly lower than Wall Street analysts\u2019 expectations: $43.62 billion compared to $43.68 billion expected. Its revenue was down by about 1% from last year at $44.02 billion.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with CNBC last week, President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> said he will \u201cremember\u201d the U.S. companies that do not <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >seek <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bessent-says-treasury-can-cover-tariff-refunds\/\" title=\"Bessent says Treasury can\u00a0cover ...s\">tariff refunds<\/a><\/a>. Amazon and Apple were among the businesses that did not file for reimbursements. Those tariffs are scheduled to expire on July 24. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/trump-administration\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"339\">Trump administration<\/a> is working to replace the temporary import taxes with more durable tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ustr\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2136\">U.S. Trade Representative<\/a> is holding hearings this week for Section 301 investigations of major trading partners, such as China and the European Union.
