In a late Monday filing, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and other DOJ officials argued the space is needed for national security, citing concerns heightened by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/secret-service-reform-is-a-literal-life-or-death-necessity\/\" title=\"Secret Service Reform Is A Literal Life-Or-Death Necessity\">recent shooting attempt<\/a> during the White House Correspondents\u2019 Association dinner. <\/p>\n<p>The motion also attacked the preservation group\u2019s credibility, saying its name is \u201cFAKE\u201d and dismissing its position as stemming from political bias (\u201cTrump Derangement Syndrome\u201d). DOJ is asking a judge, richard Leon, to lift an injunction that halted aboveground construction on the roughly $400 million project and possibly dismiss the case. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the U.S. Court of Appeals delayed Leon\u2019s injunction at least until June, allowing construction to continue during the appeal. The ballroom is expected to include an underground bunker for protecting top officials in emergencies, which the preservation group said it supports even while challenging other parts of the project. Blanche said the preservation group\u2019s \u201cname is FAKE\u201d because it makes the organization sound like a federal agency when it isn\u2019t. He also claimed the organization suffers \u201cfrom Trump Derangement Syndrome, commonly referred to as TDS.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Trump shared the full nine-page motion in a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116481910110003463\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116481910110003463\">series of Truth Social posts<\/a> on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ, representing the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-park-service\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"190\">National Park Service<\/a> and other defendants, argued that the 90,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-will-construct-90000-square-foot-trump-ballroom\/\" title=\"... will construct 90,000-square-foot Trump ...\">000-square-foot ballroom<\/a> is necessary for <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/national-security\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8754\">national security<\/a> purposes. Trump repeatedly made that argument while the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >construction project faced court challenges<\/a>, and his reasoning was underscored by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/air-force-confirms-multiple-personnel-files-leaked-to-dem-opposition-research-firm\/\" title=\"Air Force Confirms Multiple Personnel Files Leaked to Dem Opposition Research Firm\">assassination attempt targeting<\/a> the president during the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house-correspondents-dinner\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"2432\">White House Correspondents\u2019 Association dinner<\/a> on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresidents need a secure space for large events, that currently does not exist in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"260\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, and this Court\u2019s injunction stalling this Project cannot defensibly continue, for the sake of the safety of President Trump, future Presidents, and their families, Cabinets, and staff,\u201d Blanche wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The department is asking U.S. District Judge Richard Leon to lift his injunction pausing aboveground construction on the $400 million project, paving the way for the case\u2019s potential dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Court should never have enjoined this Project, but now, after the Saturday night attempted assassination, which could have never taken place in the new facility, reasonable minds can no longer differ \u2014 The injunction must be dissolved,\u201d Blanche said. \u201cThis Court should immediately issue an indicative ruling that it will dissolve the injunction, and put an end to this frivolous lawsuit, which greatly endangers the lives of all Presidents, current and future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit stayed Leon\u2019s order, allowing construction to continue until at least June while it considers the case.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Saturday\u2019s attack, Trump used a press briefing to sell his ballroom project to the American people, saying such an incident would never have happened at the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/white-house\/\" type=\"category\" id=\"125\">White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4544382\/historic-preservation-group-wont-end-lawsuit-against-trump-ballroom\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4544382\/historic-preservation-group-wont-end-lawsuit-against-trump-ballroom\/\">HISTORICAL PRESERVATION GROUP WON\u2019T END LAWSUIT AGAINST TRUMP\u2019S BALLROOM<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ballroom is expected to include an underground bunker to protect top federal officials in the event of such an emergency.
