While later splinters attempted to recruit and organize-sometimes through motorcycle gangs or prospects of new headquarters-opposition and internal setbacks prevented them from regaining major paid operatives embedded within the Aryan Nations, after effectively suing the extremist organization out of existence two decades ago, as part of what prosecutors say was a self-enrichment scheme to justify the law center\u2019s purported bigot-fighting work.<\/p>\n<p>Federal investigators are alleging that the SPLC has been operating a covert network of \u201cfield sources,\u201d known as instead on infiltration efforts that actually helped the white supremacist cause.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-splc-accused-of-paying-aryan-nations-associates\">SPLC accused of paying Aryan Nations associates<\/h2>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/topic\/Aryan-Nations\">Aryan Nations<\/a>, which believed that white Aryans were superior beings, was one of the organizations whose leaders or <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >foot soldiers allegedly accepted funding<\/a> from the SPLC while engaged in the active promotion of white nationalism.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/media\/1437146\/dl\">grand jury indictment<\/a> charging the SPLC with funneling funds to these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/has-the-fbi-become-a-threat-to-democracy\/\" title=\"Has the FBI Become a Threat to Democracy?\">paid informants<\/a>, the law center gave an individual identified as \u201cF-27,\u201d an officer in the Aryan Nations-affiliated Sadistic Souls Motorcycle Club, more than $300,000 from 2014 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4540622\/splc-allegedly-spent-million-infiltrating-national-alliance\/\"><strong>SPLC ALLEGEDLY SPENT OVER $1 MILLION INFILTRATING HATE GROUP IT PUBLICLY CLAIMED WAS \u2018ALMOST IRRELEVANT\u2019<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another associate, called \u201cF-30,\u201d the former director of a faction of the Aryan Nations, allegedly received over $70,000 from the SPLC between 2014 and 2016. According to authorities, that time period overlapped with when F-30 was featured on the SPLC\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/resources\/extremist-files\/\">\u201cExtremist Files\u201d<\/a> webpage, through which the legal clinic solicited donations.<\/p>\n<p>The page used to be called the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100901034135\/http:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/get-informed\/intelligence-files\/groups\/aryan-nations\">\u201cIntelligence Files\u201d<\/a> under the SPLC\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100826004403\/http:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/get-informed\">\u201cGet Informed\u201d<\/a> section, a database that contained <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20100826003634\/http:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/get-informed\/intelligence-files\">profiles<\/a> of prominent political extremists.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-splc-self-credited-with-collapse-of-the-aryan-nations\">SPLC self-credited with collapse of the Aryan Nations<\/h2>\n<p>As the SPLC still <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/resources\/civil-rights-case-docket\/keenan-v-aryan-nations\/\">touts<\/a> on its website today, the law center <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/keenanvaryannations_amcomplaint.pdf\">sued<\/a> the Aryan Nations in 1999 on behalf of two Native Americans, a mother and her son, who had been beaten and held at gunpoint by members of the Aryan Nations.<\/p>\n<p>The victims were driving near the heavily guarded Aryan Nations compound in Idaho, which was dubbed the \u201cAryan Nations World Congress,\u201d when bullets struck their car. (AP Photo\/Elaine Thompson)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2000, the SPLC won its \u201clandmark case\u201d against the Aryan Nations, and the organization\u2019s founder, Richard Butler, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/resources\/reports\/aryan-nations-verge-collapse-following-judgment\/\">filed for bankruptcy<\/a> several weeks later after he was ordered to pay the jury\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/07\/keenanvaryannations_amjudgment.pdf\">$6.3 million judgment<\/a> in punitive damages owed to the victims.<\/p>\n<p>Butler was then forced to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.voanews.com\/a\/a-13-a-2002-08-14-19-idaho-67436557\/384473.html\">relinquish<\/a> the 20-acre compound at an auction, the site\u2019s guard tower was subsequently demolished, and the church and meeting hall were burned to the ground during a firefighter drill.\u00a0For decades, the Aryan Nations headquarters had served as the meeting place for the nation\u2019s most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-lawmakers-slam-biden-over-use-of-race-card-to-push-far-left-policies\/\" title=\"GOP lawmakers slam Biden over use of \u2018race card\u2019 to push far...left policies\">violent white supremacists<\/a>, the SPLC says.<\/p>\n<p>Following Butler\u2019s death in 2004, the Aryan Nations split into two factions, which differed over their belief over whether they could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/md-gov-hogan-urges-biden-lawmakers-to-work-together-on-covid-19-relief-legislation\/\" title=\"Md. Gov. Hogan urges Biden, lawmakers to work together on COVID...19 relief legislation\">find common ground<\/a> with Islamic jihadists via their shared hatred of Jews. Green)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In the mid-2000s, the last remnants of its leadership recruited among motorcycle gangs in the South but failed to reestablish operations beyond two chapters and a handful of recruits<\/p>\n<p>One spin-off tried to erect a new Aryan headquarters in John Day, Oregon, a small rural town in the eastern region of the state, but the mayor, police chief, business owners, ranchers, and residents all adamantly opposed the skinheads setting up shop in their backyard, and the Aryan Nations followers had to abandon those plans.<\/p>\n<p>The same spin-off attempted to raise funds in 2010 for a $5,000 deposit needed to buy 15 acres of land in southern Tennessee for the founding of \u201ca new Aryan Republic Homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But by the end of 2010, its head, Paul Mullet, gave up on the Aryan Nations and left the group, though it was taken over by Morris Gullet, an organizer who was active in the Aryan Nations in the 1990s.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">FILE \u2013 In this July 3, 1999 file photo, Richard Butler, center, founder of the Aryan Nations sect, salutes along with other members of the neo Nazi group during a rally in Coeur d\u2019 Alene, Idaho.
