He argued that Iran\u2019s motivation is even clearer becuase the leadership openly boasts about its leverage, and that access to a nuclear weapon would magnify the threat to the region and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>Rubio also defended U.S. military action against Iran, saying it was necessary to prevent Iran from undermining U.S. ability to counter threats posed by groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas, and that having a nuclear capability would make these efforts far harder. He warned that if Iran remains governed by the current clerical regime,it will eventually seek nuclear weapons and could shield its nuclear program behind conventional forces.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding next steps, Rubio pointed to existing sanctions and suggested additional measures might potentially be warranted.He urged the international community to recognize Iran\u2019s actions as a threat to global peace and stability and to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >coordinate pressure-including \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">crippling sanctions<\/a>\u201d-<\/a>to push Iran toward concessions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<article class=\"fn-body\">\n<p>Secretary of State <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\">Marco Rubio<\/a> criticized the Iranian regime, blasting the leaders of the country for using force to control shipping through an \u201cinternational waterway.\u201d Rubio said the regime is trying to hold the world hostage by controlling the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/strait-of-hormuz\/\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, through which over 80% of the world\u2019s oil is transported. Moreover, Rubio said such measures would be drastically complicated if Iran obtained a nuclear weapon. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t be able to do anything about Hezbollah, we wouldn\u2019t be able to do anything about Hamas, we wouldn\u2019t be able to do anything about the Shia militias in Iraq, because they\u2019d be sitting there with a nuclear weapon saying we are untouchable,\u201d said Rubio. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt in my mind that at some point in the future if this radical clerical regimes remain in charge in Iran, they will decide they want a nuclear weapon,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd what they were trying to do, before the President took action, is to hide behind this conventional shield of drums and missiles and a large navy, hide behind that, an impenetrable conventional shield, so they can do whatever they wanted with their nuclear program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rubio also discussed the potential course of action should no agreement with Iran be achieved. He mentioned the existing sanctions against Iran, which contribute significantly to economic pressure on the country. He added that further sanctions could be added.
