A report described a North Carolina high school situation in which female students say they were not properly addressed when they complained about boys (including a student who identifies as female) using girls\u2019 bathrooms and locker rooms. The report says junior Trista Ruck raised these concerns publicly and that the principal responded that courts had left the issue beyond the school\u2019s ability to change and told students who felt uncomfortable to use choice options.<\/p>\n

Advocacy founder Alexis Hughes criticized the school board for what she called a lack of action, arguing that schools are responsible for protecting students\u2019 safety and privacy and that unclear or absent policies failed female students<\/a>. Ruck also claimed the administration ignored student complaints<\/a> and instead made accommodations for the girls rather than addressing the situation. She alleged additional concerns such as the perceived discomfort or gaze of the male student while girls were changing, and said she and other students avoided using restrooms when possible. <\/p>\n
