He seriously said that.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-398304457\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;If the Democrats win the presidency and both houses of Congress,&rdquo; he said in a podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7CYYf1fXDKQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a>, &ldquo;I think on day one, they should make Puerto Rico, D.C. a state, and they should&nbsp;expand the Supreme Court&nbsp;to 13.&rdquo; He said campaigns shouldn&rsquo;t bother making it a part of their platforms. &ldquo;Don&rsquo;t run on it,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Don&rsquo;t talk about it. Just do it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"3tl0L7g5czaGS16W2rfdiRp\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Carville tells Dems to quietly prepare power grab with DC, Puerto Rico statehood and Supreme Court packing | Alexander Hall, Fox News<\/p>\n<p>Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville suggested on Thursday that Democrats should quietly prepare to launch a variety of structural&hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8pBB4b3Efl\">pic.twitter.com\/8pBB4b3Efl<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Owen Gregorian (@OwenGregorian) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OwenGregorian\/status\/2045486444337107336?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 18, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Two days later, the New York Times published a bunch of formerly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judge-agrees-to-appoint-special-master-in-giuliani-case\/\" title=\"Judge Agrees to Appoint Special Master in Giuliani Case\">private communications<\/a> from 2016 between the Supreme Court justices in a naked attempt to further delegitimize the institution, creating the impression that, as it currently exists, the court is nothing more than a political arm of the Republican Party. While previously the court &ldquo;handled major cases at a stately pace that encouraged care and deliberation,&rdquo; it now routinely conducts its business &ldquo;along partisan lines,&rdquo; as the Times paints it, with Chief Justice John Roberts motivated by a petty vendetta against former President Obama.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In the Trump era,&rdquo; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2026\/04\/18\/us\/politics\/supreme-court-shadow-docket.html?smid=tw-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article<\/a> by Jodi Kantor and Adam Liptak said, &ldquo;[Chief Justice John Roberts] and the other conservative justices have repeatedly empowered the president through their shadow docket rulings. By contrast, the papers reveal a court wielding those same powers to block Mr. Obama.&rdquo;<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The authors chide the new and frequent use of the &ldquo;shadow docket,&rdquo; which the court uses to issue quick and temporary orders for highly consequential cases coming before it. The court&rsquo;s 2016 decision to block a sweeping Obama environmental initiative via emergency order launched a &ldquo;questionable new way of operating,&rdquo; according to the Times, and &ldquo;none of the justices fully appreciated what they were doing.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Mind you, by the court having &ldquo;empowered&rdquo; President Trump, the authors mean he was spared from Democrat-waged lawfare, as that party has broken with the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >previously unspoken understanding<\/a> that once one side attempts to make political disagreement illegal, this whole country is over. There&rsquo;s also the unique issue of this president facing an obscene number of illegal orders from authoritarian district judges whose decisions fly in the face of reason, and the Supreme Court is forced to address them. <\/p>\n<p>But if you can count on Democrats to do one thing, it&rsquo;s to escalate tensions by breaking precedent. They are sure to do it again.
