It notes that Rep. Eric Swalwell and Rep. Men entrusted with power, visibility, and the confidence of their constituents somehow convince themselves they’re immune to consequences. Which brings us to the latest pair of congressmen, who just detonated their own careers under the all-too-familiar cloud of scandal.

Reps. A man who cannot lead his wife and kids has no business being a community leader. And a man who clearly cannot comprehend the most basic lessons of the Bible has no business being a role model.

Matthew 5:27-28 makes it abundantly clear that adultery is a grave sin: “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”

Adultery is both a private failing and a breach of covenant. Marriage, at its core, is a promise freely made and publicly affirmed, a commitment to fidelity that forms the foundation of a stable family. When a man breaks that promise, he’s proving that his word is conditional and that his commitments are negotiable when temptation arises.

That’s a fundamental crack in the very idea of trust.

It also reveals a dangerous kind of entitlement. Affairs don’t happen in a vacuum. They require deception, compartmentalization, and a willingness to put one’s own desires above the well-being of a spouse, children, and everyone else caught in the fallout. This raises a simple question: If they’ll betray the people closest to them, why wouldn’t they betray the people they represent?

Then there’s the ripple effect. Adultery doesn’t just wound a marriage, but destabilizes families, erodes trust in institutions, and feeds a broader cultural cynicism that commitments don’t really mean anything anymore. Children learn from what they see, not just what they’re told, and when fathers model disloyalty and duplicity, it leaves a mark that doesn’t easily fade.

At the end of the day, this isn’t complicated. Character still matters. Integrity still matters. And when men in positions of authority prove they lack both, the only appropriate response is accountability.

A word of advice to young men out there: Titles can be replaced, jobs can be earned again, but a man’s word, once broken so completely, is far harder to restore. It almost makes you feel a smidgen of sympathy for Swalwell and Gonzalez.

Almost.

       * Name

       *

      * Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

       function firefly_sc() { if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){ console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined'); } grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) { var opts={ action: 'firefly_sc_submit', name: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value, : document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value, message: document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value, post_id: firefly_post_id, cap_token: token } var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ]; for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! It isn’t hard to resist if you value duty and honor. Even if you were tempted, self-preservation and consequences should deter you: you could lose half your assets and ruin your reputation with family and friends. The piece argues that public officials-people entrusted with power and visibility-often convince themselves they won’t face consequences, which is a troubling sign.

It then highlights two congressmen, Eric Swalwell and Tony Gonzales, who announced they would resign amid scandal. Swalwell faced allegations of sexual misconduct, while Gonzales admitted an inappropriate relationship with a female staffer. Both are married with children. The author bluntly says goodbye to them: a man who can’t control his impulses has no business in public service, leadership, or setting an example.

Biblical reference is used (Matthew 5:27-28) to frame adultery as a grave sin: looking at someone lustfully is equivalent to committing adultery in the heart. Adultery is described as both a private failure and a breach of covenant; marriage is a freely given, publicly affirmed commitment that supports a stable family. When a man breaks that promise, it signals that his word is conditional and his commitments negotiable in the face of temptation.

Affairs don’t happen in isolation; they require deception and a willingness to put personal desires above the well-being of a spouse, children, and others affected. This raises the question: if they’ll betray those closest to them, why wouldn’t they betray the people they represent? The ripple effects include damaged trust in institutions and a broader cultural cynicism that commitments don’t mean anything. Children learn from behavior, so when fathers model disloyalty and deceit, the impact can be lasting.

Ultimately, the message is simple: character and integrity matter. Those in positions of authority should be held accountable when they fail. The author notes that while titles and jobs can be earned again, a person’s word, once broken, is hard to restore. The tone suggests some conditional sympathy for Swalwell and Gonzales, but overall emphasizes accountability and the importance of integrity.

Note: The text also includes references to page elements like a form and ad widgets, which are part of the page’s design and not central to the argument

[33651
4402,4381,5894,34309,4633
post-2590873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-congress","tag-ethics","tag-politics","tag-resignations","tag-scandal
["GET
