On Sunday, the congressman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-eric-swalwell-suspends-campaign-amid-flurry-sexual-assault-accusations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suspended<\/a> his gubernatorial campaign, though he has denied the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Khanna, perhaps best known for working with Republican Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/doj-unredacts-alleged-epstein-co-conspirators-pressure-thomas-massie-ro-khanna\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas Massie<\/a> of Kentucky to secure the release of files pertaining to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ghislaine-maxwell-kept-a-degrading-58-page-list-of-rules-for-epstein-house-staff\/\" title=\"Ghislaine Maxwell Kept A \u2018Degrading\u2019 58-Page List Of Rules For Epstein House Staff\">late sex offender<\/a> and suspected sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, also called for the expulsion of Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas. In March, Gonzales <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/gop-congressman-ends-re-election-bid-amid-affair-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ended his reelection campaign<\/a> after admitting to an affair with former aide Regina Santos-Aviles.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2025, Santos-Aviles <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/report-alleges-gop-congressman-affair-aide-died-setting-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">died by suicide<\/a> after dousing herself with gasoline and lighting herself on fire.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Republican Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/rep-anna-paulina-luna-accuses-members-sides-molesting-staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anna Paulina Luna<\/a> of Florida has launched a crusade against legislators who sexually harass and abuse staffers.<\/p>\n<p>It seems Democrats, too, have had enough and will jettison Swalwell if given the opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is not a partisan issue,&rdquo; Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington said Sunday on NBC&rsquo;s &ldquo;Meet the Press.&rdquo; &ldquo;This cuts across party line, and it is a depravity of the way that women have been treated. And I&rsquo;m just inspired by the courage and the bravery of the women who came forward. This is clearly a pattern. I&rsquo;ve already called for Congressman Swalwell to drop out of the gubernatorial race. And I think we have to hold everybody accountable.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>By &ldquo;hold everybody accountable,&rdquo; Jayapal meant expulsion from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, a slew of House Democrats spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/04\/12\/swalwell-gonzales-cherfilus-mccormick-mills-expel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a> on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;People feel confident that the allegations against all four are credible,&rdquo; one House Democrat said, referring to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/swalwell-said-believe-survivors-issues-denial-saying-shouldnt-believe-women-say-survived-sex-abuse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swalwell<\/a>, Gonzales, Republican Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, and Democratic Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick of Florida.<\/p>\n<p>The House Ethics Committee has investigated Mills for both financial and sexual misconduct. That same committee has already found Cherfilus-McCormick guilty of financial transgressions. Both Mills and Cherfilus-McCormick have denied the allegations against them.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We want a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >full house cleaning<\/a>,&rdquo; a second House Democrat told Axios. &ldquo;Get the garbage out of here. These jerks are destroying Congress, for the American people and for all of us who came here to do good work.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>When asked about the prospect of expelling Swalwell and the other three, a senior House Democrat said &ldquo;I&rsquo;m interested.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think there&rsquo;s an appetite to do it and just rip the Band-Aid off once,&rdquo; a fourth House Democrat said.
