It reports that the group has raised nearly $50 million, with more than 90% of large contributions coming from out-of-state, Democrat-aligned donors.The Virginia Public Access Project data identify the largest donors as House Majority Forward ($29.3 million,DC-based),The Fairness Project ($11.02 million), and the Fund for Policy Reform Inc. ($5 million), together totaling about $45.3 million. The piece argues that this out-of-state funding is driving a push to shift the map from a 6 Democrat-5 Republican configuration to a 10 Democrat-1 republican one, which it claims would disenfranchise rural Virginians. But if their concerns were actually genuine, where is their outrage about the massive wave of out-of-state money flooding Virginia to pass their <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/02\/18\/dems-rig-virginia-vote-with-misleading-ballot-language-equating-gerrymandering-push-to-fairness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deceptively worded<\/a> gerrymandering amendment?<\/p>\n<p>According to figures compiled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/committees\/610181\/virginians-for-fair-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virginia Public Access Project<\/a> (VPAP), the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doctors-hide-study-results-showing-transitioning-kids-is-harmful\/\" title=\"Doctors Hide Study Results Showing &#039;Transitioning&#039; Kids Is Harmful\">wrongly named &#038;ldquo<\/a>;Virginians for Fair Elections&rdquo; has received nearly $50 million to deceive voters into supporting a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/02\/17\/va-supreme-courts-gerrymandering-charade-shows-how-the-judiciary-is-wrecking-its-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">legally questionable<\/a> ballot measure allowing the state&rsquo;s Democrat-run General Assembly to redraw the commonwealth&rsquo;s congressional map. The party&rsquo;s current proposal would gerrymander the state&rsquo;s U.S. House districts from a six Democrat-five Republican map to a 10 Democrat-one Republican map and effectively <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/04\/08\/virginia-democrats-power-grab-is-a-giant-middle-finger-to-rural-americans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disenfranchise<\/a> millions of rural Virginians in the process. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1577407654\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In the months leading up to the April 21 referendum, Virginians for Fair Elections has deployed dishonest ads characterizing Democrats&rsquo; gerrymandering scheme as &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oZNkQcxhV0c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fair<\/a>,&rdquo; and claiming it&rsquo;s about protecting &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=iVLO9JwvqbI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">democracy<\/a>,&rdquo; a much-needed &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DqagpuZJYXM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">emergency<\/a>,&rdquo; and &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0FOf_NR2q4o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">level[ing] the playing field<\/a>.&rdquo; But it&rsquo;s clear after examining the funds being poured into the group, however, that most of its financial support isn&rsquo;t coming from the Virginians it pretends it&rsquo;s trying to help, but from leftist organizations based outside the state. <\/p>\n<p>A Federalist analysis of the latest donation figures assembled by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/committees\/610181\/virginians-for-fair-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Virginia Public Access Project<\/a> shows that more than 90 percent of Virginians for Fair Elections&rsquo; large contributions come from Democrat-aligned out-of-state groups.<\/p>\n<p>The organization&rsquo;s largest contributor is none other than the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/committee\/C90018763\/?tab=about-committee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">D.C.-based<\/a> House Majority Forward (HMF), a 501(c)(4) that boasts ties to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and House Democrat leadership. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/house-majority-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">InfluenceWatch<\/a>, HMF &mdash; which has given $29.3 million to Virginians for Fair Elections &mdash; &ldquo;focuses on climate change, social justice, economics, and democracy, and produces ads in favor of Democratic candidates and opposed to Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The second largest donor ($11.02 million) to Virginians for Fair Elections is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefairnessproject.org\/contact-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Fairness Project<\/a>. InfluenceWatch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/the-fairness-project-tfp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">describes<\/a> the D.C.-based 501(c)(4) as a &ldquo;labor union-backed advocacy organization that finances and supports state ballot initiative campaigns to promote left-of-center policies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >government-mandated comprehensive paid family<\/a> and medical leave, Medicaid expansion, and minimum wage increases.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The nonprofit watchdog noted how The Fairness Project is &ldquo;funded by a number of undisclosed donors, leading the group to have significant out-of-state influence on local elections.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Virginians for Fair Elections&rsquo; left-wing gravy train also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/msnbc-terrible-jobs-report-is-the-pressure-we-need-to-pass-15-minimum-wage\/\" title=\"MSNBC: Terrible Jobs Report Is The \u2018Pressure We Need\u2019 To Pass  Minimum Wage\">enjoys substantial support<\/a> from Fund for Policy Reform Inc., a <a href=\"https:\/\/app.candid.org\/profile\/8837399\/fund-for-policy-reform-inc-26-4351242?activeTab=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York-based<\/a> 501(c)(4) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/fund-for-policy-reform-trust\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">with<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/apublictrust\/status\/2034272329241333989?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ties<\/a> to leftist billionaire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/person\/george-soros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">George Soros<\/a>. The Fund for Policy Reform Inc. gave Virginians for Fair Elections $5 million to support Democrats&rsquo; gerrymandering amendment.<\/p>\n<p>The collective total of donations from House Majority Forward, The Fairness Project, and the Fund for Policy Reform Inc. comes out to approximately $45.32 million. That&rsquo;s more than 90 percent of Virginians for Fair Elections&rsquo; large contributions, which clock in at roughly $49.72 million.<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/committees\/610181\/virginians-for-fair-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">major contributors<\/a> to Virginians for Fair Elections include the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/global-impact-social-welfare-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Impact Social Welfare Fund<\/a> ($1.5 million), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vpap.org\/lobbying\/client\/566421-american-opportunity-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">American Opportunity Action<\/a> ($1 million), and the Democratic Party of Virginia ($710,825).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
