The bill, sponsored by Reps. Maria Salazar and mike Lawler and others, would create a \u201cDignity Program\u201d offering seven years of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-backed-amnesty-bill-is-a-middle-finger-to-republican-voters\/\" title=\"GOP...Backed ... ... Is A Middle Finger To Republican Voters\">earned legal status<\/a> with renewal based on good conduct, described by supporters as a legitimate solution rather than amnesty. The piece notes a recent \u201cDignity Tour\u201d to rally support and contends the proposal\u2019s branding, including the name DIGNIDAD, is misleading and amounts to amnesty in practice. It argues that Republicans have little to show for their majorities-missing conservative priorities and failing to advance key policies-while Democrats have gained ground in recent elections, suggesting that shilling for amnesty won\u2019t help the GOP\u2019s prospects this fall. The author concludes that Republicans should pursue a real conservative agenda or risk a crushing electoral defeat, asserting that voters punish both parties differently and that the party\u2019s current approach is failing. The article is written by Shawn Fleetwood of the Federalist.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>You almost have to admire how far some Republicans are willing to go to lose the 2026 midterms &mdash; and ultimately, the country. <\/p>\n<p>Throughout their recent two-week vacation, several GOP lawmakers have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jQdLp_p4kq4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">making<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2026\/04\/07\/republicans-dignity-act-amnesty-illegal-immigration-mike-lawler-brian-kilmeade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">media rounds<\/a> to tout &ldquo;bipartisan&rdquo; legislation they claim will <em>finally<\/em> solve America&rsquo;s broken immigration system. There&rsquo;s just one teensy-weensy important detail that somehow gets brushed aside: The bill would allow millions of illegal aliens to continue living in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Sponsored by Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar, R-Fla., Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/4393\/cosponsors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">other lawmakers<\/a>, the so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/4393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act<\/a> permits &ldquo;certain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democratic-senator-unveils-plan-to-tackle-immigration-reform-and-border-security-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Democratic senator unveils plan to tackle immigration reform and border security ... Washington Examiner\">long-term undocumented immigrants<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-pressed-on-whether-trump-would-back-the-dignity-act\/\" title=\"White House pressed on whether Trump would back the ... ...\">earn legal status<\/a>, without amnesty or a path to citizenship&rdquo; so that foreign nationals who broke U.S. immigration law can have an &ldquo;opportunity,&rdquo; according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/salazar.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-salazar-introduces-historic-bipartisan-dignity-act-finally-fix-americas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salazar press release<\/a>. The measure would notably create a &ldquo;Dignity Program,&rdquo; which the Florida congresswoman&rsquo;s office described as a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/embracing-amnesty-for-illegals-is-a-recipe-for-gop-midterm-defeat\/\" title=\"Embracing ... Is A Recipe For GOP Midterm Defeat\">7-year earned legal status program allowing undocumented immigrants<\/a> to live and work legally, with renewable status based on good conduct and restitution.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The revived push to pass the bill appears to be part of sponsors&rsquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/salazar.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/rep-maria-elvira-salazar-joins-bipartisan-leaders-launch-national-dignity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recently announced<\/a> &ldquo;Dignity Tour&rdquo; to rally support for the measure and get it through Congress. <\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s bad enough that the legislation&rsquo;s sponsors felt compelled to give it a deceptive (and dumb) name like the &ldquo;DIGNIDAD Act.&rdquo; But it&rsquo;s even worse that its promoters like <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepBrandonGill\/status\/2041649435587866911?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salazar<\/a> are trying to gaslight Republican voters into thinking that the measure is anything but one giant amnesty package.<\/p>\n<p>America is either a nation with defined borders and laws, or it&rsquo;s not. There is no in-between. But rather than fulfill their 2024 campaign pledges to ensure the former, it&rsquo;s clear some Republicans are content with handing out amnesty to foreign lawbreakers like candy on Halloween. <\/p>\n<p>Such a proposal isn&rsquo;t just asinine because it cripples America&rsquo;s sovereignty and long-term survival as a nation. It&rsquo;s also incredibly moronic from a political standpoint. <\/p>\n<p>Aside from the &ldquo;One Big Beautiful Bill&rdquo; that they never effectively sold to voters, Republicans have virtually nothing to show for their congressional majorities. The Senate GOP still hasn&rsquo;t passed the SAVE America Act, rogue judges continue to go unpunished, many of Trump&rsquo;s executive orders haven&rsquo;t been codified into law, and other conservative priorities remain untouched. <\/p>\n<p>So, exactly what are voters &mdash; including those who identify as Republicans &mdash; supposed to vote for this fall? Amnesty? More GOP obstruction of the conservative policies they were promised but are now told aren&rsquo;t possible with Republican majorities?<\/p>\n<p>The Grand Old Party doesn&rsquo;t have an answer &mdash; and it shows. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[READ:[READ:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2026\/03\/30\/republicans-would-rather-cede-power-to-democrats-than-their-own-voters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Republicans Would Rather Cede Power To Democrats Than Their Own Voters<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The headwinds Republicans are facing this fall became evident on Tuesday night, when Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kosu.org\/politics\/2026-04-08\/democrats-keep-doing-better-in-elections-since-trump-returned-to-office\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">continued<\/a> their <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DecisionDeskHQ\/status\/2041877927835373750?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">domination<\/a> of special and off-year elections since the 2024 contest. In Wisconsin, leftists easily expanded their majority on the state Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Democrats in Georgia significantly overperformed in the special House race to fill the seat left open by former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga.<\/p>\n<p>The dynamic at play is one that&rsquo;s existed for decades. While voters punish Democrats for abusing power when they have it, they punish Republicans for never using it to begin with. <\/p>\n<p>Shilling for amnesty is not going to give the GOP a fighting chance this fall. And neither is repeatedly stonewalling the policies they campaigned on. Only implementing a conservative agenda that addresses the needs of the electorate will. <\/p>\n<p>Should Republicans ignore this reality and decline to act on it, they should prepare to be demolished at the ballot box this November.
