The investigation began after the bodies of several women were found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach in 2010-2011. Six victims are identified among what authorities refer to as the Gilgo Four, plus two more named Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack; a seventh victim, Sandra Costilla, was found more than 60 miles away in the hamptons. Eleven sets of remains are linked to the case, though Heuermann faced charges for seven killings. The case went cold for years before a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >dedicated task force revived<\/a> it in 2022. Heuermann was arrested in 2023 after DNA evidence from human hair at the scene, along with phone records and internet searches, led investigators to him. He has maintained his innocence.
