Trump and his Truth Social posts argued the CNN statement was fake, alleging it originated from a Nigerian fake site and was then amplified by CNN. CNN said the statement came from Iranian officials and had been reported by multiple Iranian state media outlets, with CNN Communications standing by their sourcing. The Iranian claim described in the piece included agreeing to allow safe passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the Iranian military in exchange for ceasing hostilities, with Iran and Oman reportedly charging transit fees to fund reconstruction. The false Statement was linked to a Fake News site (from Nigeria) and, of course, immediately picked up by CNN, and blared out as a &lsquo;legitimate&rsquo; headline,&rdquo; Trump wrote on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116366146721038653\">Truth Social<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The CNN article <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/04\/07\/world\/live-news\/iran-war-trump-us-israel?post-id=cmnp8b6kb0001356sct0yez8e\">said<\/a> the outlet obtained the statement, in which the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >regime claimed victory<\/a>, from Iranian officials and that multiple Iranian media outlets reported the statement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The statement in question was obtained by CNN from Iranian officials and reported on multiple Iranian state media outlets. We received the statement from specific official Iranian spokespeople who are known to us,&rdquo; CNN Communications said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Iran&rsquo;s claim contrasted with the White House&rsquo;s, with press secretary Karoline Leavitt posting on X to declare U.S. victory with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/u-s-welcomes-talibans-announcement-of-3-day-ceasefire\/\" title=\"U.S. welcomes Taliban\u2019s announcement of 3-day ...\">ceasefire agreement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is a victory for the United States that President Trump and our incredible military made happen. From the very beginning of Operation Epic Fury, President Trump estimated this would be a 4-6 week operation. Thanks to the unbelievable capabilities of our warriors, we have achieved and exceeded our core military objectives in 38 days,&rdquo; Leavitt <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PressSec\/status\/2041693957571186952?s=20\">wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In his Truth Social post, Trump <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116366072136989268\">pointed<\/a> to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4519930\/iran-safe-passage-strait-of-hormuz-ceasefire-fees\/\">a statement<\/a> on the ceasefire from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on behalf of the Supreme National Security Council. In the statement, Iran agreed to allow the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4519930\/iran-safe-passage-strait-of-hormuz-ceasefire-fees\/\">safe passage of vessels<\/a> through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the Iranian military in exchange for the cessation of hostilities.
