Aaron Rupar, a Minnesota-based journalist, spends much of his day watching Donald Trump and posting short clips of him, building a large online following as a one-man news presence.

– The Times of London runs a profile titled “The man who watches Trump all day, every day,” portraying his work as demanding and high-stakes, akin to firefighting or piloting, and emphasizing the psychological pressures involved.

– Rupar describes the workload as grueling at times-long hours and intense focus-but he says he’s managed to stay relatively healthy, though he acknowledges mental health isn’t perfect and that the job can be bleak.

– The piece notes his significant reach: more than a million followers on X, nearly a million on Bluesky, and about a quarter of a million Substack subscribers paying around $50 a year, underscoring his financial incentive and influence.

– Critics within the article argue that his clip-based approach frequently enough presents Trump’s remarks out of broader context, suggesting it serves his audience but may oversimplify or distort the bigger picture of political reporting.

– The profile discusses the costs of his work on Rupar’s mental health and personal life, while also recognizing the appeal and reach of his coverage, raising questions about the value and ethical implications of a solo, clip-driven news model.

Aaron Rupar sits in front of his computer all day and obsesses about the perfidies of President Donald Trump because he feels it’s his “duty” The piece describes his work as demanding and almost firefighting-like, noting Rupar’s own belief that the job imposes real psychological strain, even though he says he remains relatively healthy given the hours he works.

Rupar’s setup and routine are highlighted: he often works from home with multiple laptops, following Trump’s frenetic schedule from speeches to late‑night social posts. The Times portrays him as a “one‑man news agency” who catalogs notable Trump remarks and disseminates them instantly across X, Bluesky, and Substack, where millions of followers and paying subscribers await his clips. Critics, including some of Trump’s allies, argue that his approach distills statements out of context, yet Rupar defends it by pointing to the sheer amount of information he surfaces and his audience’s interest.

The article notes the personal toll of his work, with Rupar acknowledging very long days-sometimes 18-20 hours-and occasional late-night wakeups for coverage. It describes the anti-context critique: even as his clips highlight salienti lines, they can strip away broader meaning. Rupar asserts that, in his view, his work reveals the untruths and outright noise in Trump’s rhetoric, while admitting that rallies can be full of harsh, incoherent content. Financially, his influence is substantial, driven by a large audience and subscriptions, and he says he feels privileged to cover historic events despite the mental health cost.
