It contrasts her with Maria Lazar, a conservative judge, to depict a stark ideological contest for the seven-member court.

Key points:

– Candidate contrast: Taylor is portrayed as a Madison-area liberal with a long record in the state Assembly and on the District IV Court of Appeals, while Lazar is depicted as a Wisconsin-born conservative with a track record defending Republican-era reforms like Act 10.

– Campaign finance and donors: The piece emphasizes that Taylor’s fundraising far outstrips Lazar’s, driven by major liberal donors and organizations. It notes large contributions from the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, a left-leaning PAC, and planned Parenthood, along with wealthy individual donors.

– policy stances and “values”: Taylor’s positions are described as aligned with abortion rights, gun control, and labor unions, while Lazar is portrayed as more conservative on issues like abortion restrictions and civic identity. The article highlights Taylor’s support for expansive LGBTQ and transgender policies and her opposition to voter-ID measures, framing these as part of a broader liberal agenda.

– Legislative record and proposals: Taylor is saeid to have supported or proposed measures related to transgender rights, sanctuary-style immigration policies, in-state tuition for undocumented students, and other liberal reforms. The piece contrasts this with Lazar’s defence of conservative policies.

– National and local context: The piece connects the Wisconsin race to broader national spending patterns in judicial elections, noting that previous campaigns had seen record levels of outside money and liberal influence.

– debate and trust concerns: It cites moments from public debates and social media where Taylor’s opponents questioned her political affiliations and credibility, including accusations that she misrepresented her party alignment.

– Implication of the outcome: The article argues that Taylor’s victory would yield a 5-2 liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, effectively allowing a liberal bloc to push a more expansive, government-heavy agenda. It frames the race as crucial for conservatives to vote to counter liberal control of the court.

– Author and framing: The piece ends with a short author bio, presenting Matt Kittle as a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist and a veteran reporter.

the article casts Chris Taylor as a well-funded, unapologetically liberal candidate whose election could tilt the Wisconsin Supreme Court toward progressive policies, urging conservative voters to act to prevent a liberal majority.

Chris Taylor has campaigned for the Wisconsin Supreme Court as a “strong advocate for maintaining the independence of the judiciary.” But the judge’s long career in the Madison leftist bubble more than suggests that the former lawmaker known as “one of the most liberal members” of the Wisconsin State Assembly would bring her brand of extreme activism to the state’s highest court.

Swing state Wisconsin voters head to the polls on Tuesday for the second time in a year to elect a justice to the seven-member court. Taylor has blown through most or her funds, the most recent finance reports show, with much of the money going to ads hammering the airwaves with her Planned Parenthood credentials and attacking Lazar early and often.

Taylor likes to paint herself as a fighter for the downtrodden, but some very wealthy liberals have funded her campaign.

Taylor’s top donor to date is the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, an old leftist friend that has pumped in lots of money into her political campaigns over the years. One of her campaign ads asserts that “Our courts are our last line of defense.” She means of course the far-left voters in Madison and Milwaukee that have shown up in significant numbers over the past several election Supreme Court elections while Republican voters and money have stayed home in the lower-turnout spring contests.

While the race will not change the left’s control of the court, Taylor’s victory would give liberals a 5-2 majority and make it an absolute rubber stamp for big government, far-left policies. One need only look at where Taylor’s been to know where she would be going.

Taylor’s ‘Values’

After nine long years in the state Assembly, the strident and shrill Democrat was appointed to the Dane County Circuit Court by Democratic Gov.
