Trump&rsquo;s original deadline was Monday at 8 p.m., but he indicated on Sunday that the deadline had been pushed back a day, vowing that the U.S. would begin <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4516504\/trump-iran-open-hormuz-strait-energy-plants\/\">sweeping strikes <\/a>targeting Iran&rsquo;s power plants and bridges at 8 p.m. Tuesday if it does not meet Washington&rsquo;s demands, particularly regarding opening the Strait of Hormuz. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The president <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4509075\/trump-threatens-obliteration-irans-energy-grid-new-deal-isnt-reached-new-regime\/\">previously pledged<\/a> to &ldquo;completely obliterate&rdquo; Iran&rsquo;s oil wells and blow up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/top-democrat-senator-urges-biden-to-reverse-on-keystone-pipeline-14-ags-threaten-legal-action\/\" title=\"Top Democrat Senator Urges Biden To Reverse On Keystone Pipeline, 14 AGs Threaten Legal Action\">vital energy infrastructure<\/a> on Kharg Island, the distribution point for 90% of Iran&rsquo;s oil, if it does not make a deal.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, the president said there was &ldquo;a good chance&rdquo; Iran would make a deal on Monday, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TreyYingst\/status\/2040783740893360546\">in comments<\/a> to Fox News&rsquo;s Trey Yingst. &ldquo;They&rsquo;re negotiating it now,&rdquo; Trump said. If it doesn&rsquo;t make the deal, the U.S. will likely take over Iran&rsquo;s oil industry, the president said, raising an option <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4509118\/trump-oil-iran-venezuela\/\">he has floated before<\/a>, similar to Washington&rsquo;s takeover of Venezuela&rsquo;s energy sector.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;If they don&rsquo;t make a deal and fast, I&rsquo;m considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil,&rdquo; Trump told Yingst. &ldquo;You&rsquo;re going to see bridges and power plants dropping all over their country.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The president suggested that, should Iran decline to make a deal, the regime would face the fury of armed protesters rising up against Tehran. Trump has said Iran has already slaughtered 45,000 civilians who tried to revolt against the radical Islamic regime. He revealed on Sunday that the U.S. has sent &ldquo;a lot&rdquo; of weapons and guns to remaining Iranian protesters, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/4421002\/kurds-plea-help-toppling-iran-regime-trump-steps-back\/\">including the Kurds<\/a>, who are an Iranian ethnic minority exiled abroad.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Iran has been involved in peace talks with the U.S. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/foreign-policy\/4500079\/trump-iran-war-power-plants\/\">since around March 21<\/a>. Trump said over the weekend that Iranian officials involved in the negotiations are being granted amnesty so that talks can continue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The president has repeatedly threatened to devastate Iran&rsquo;s energy grid and other critical infrastructure if it refuses to open the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway that connects to the Persian Gulf is essential to facilitating the global oil supply. Its essential closure during the Iran war has devastated international energy markets, causing sweeping oil and gas shortages, particularly in Asian countries heavily reliant on energy from the Middle East.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Trump has adjusted deadlines for Iran to comply <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4504494\/trump-shifts-iran-timeline-again-critics-question-endgame\/\">multiple times<\/a>. His latest deadline was set on March 26, at which time the White House said it would grant Iran <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/116297295543838717\">10 days of relief<\/a>, before the extension expires on Tuesday evening.
