and &ldquo;Intergovernmental Relations&rdquo; in the governor&rsquo;s office.<\/p>\n<p>It is also larger than the funding for &ldquo;Personnel Management Services&rdquo; for the attorney general&rsquo;s Department of Law, adjudication training in the state Supreme Court, &ldquo;Emergencies Prevention and Response&rdquo; at the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the entire budget for a <a href=\"https:\/\/vcoy.virginia.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">legislative commission<\/a> tasked with recommending policies related to Virginia&rsquo;s youth.<\/p>\n<p>The DEI office&rsquo;s budget roughly equals that of &ldquo;Adjudicatory Research, Planning, and Coordination&rdquo; is clearly unconstitutional\">promote inclusive practices<\/a> across state government,&rdquo; form a &ldquo;plan to address systemic inequities in state government practices&rdquo; and &ldquo;facilitate methods to turn feedback and suggestions &hellip; into concrete equity policy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Former Republican Glenn Youngkin aimed to defang the DEI office by replacing the &ldquo;equity&rdquo; in its title with &ldquo;opportunity&rdquo; and appointing staunch DEI critics to lead it, <a href=\"https:\/\/virginiamercury.com\/2024\/03\/22\/youngkin-considers-budget-proposal-to-redirect-diversity-office-funds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Virginia Mercury reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats rejected his proposal to divert some funds from DEI to the general governor&rsquo;s office fund.<\/p>\n<p>Legislators are <a href=\"https:\/\/budget.lis.virginia.gov\/get\/budget\/5163\/SB30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">now<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/budget.lis.virginia.gov\/get\/budget\/5163\/HB30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">considering<\/a> another $3.6 million for the office over the next two fiscal years after Democrats won the legislature and governorship in the 2025 elections.<\/p>\n<p>Moon&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >state profile boasts liberal accolades<\/a> such as Harvard University&rsquo;s &ldquo;DEI Pioneer Award,&rdquo; a degree in African-American studies from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the school&rsquo;s &ldquo;Black History in the Making Award&rdquo; and being &ldquo;the first Black queer woman to establish an endowed scholarship fund in university history.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Spanberger appointee was also the Biden administration&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nist.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2022\/02\/04\/6.Moon_NIST%20DEIA%20Status%20Update%20--%20ODEI%20VCAT%20and%20Office%20Hours%20Briefing.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chief diversity officer<\/a> for a science lab at the Department of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Moon also <a href=\"https:\/\/seshajoimoon.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">served as<\/a> Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett&rsquo;s chief brand strategist and led the U.S. House&rsquo;s Office of Diversity and Inclusion <a href=\"https:\/\/wilder.vcu.edu\/news-and-events\/news-posts\/wilder-school-alumna-dr-sesha-joi-moon-appointed-virginias-chief-diversity-officer.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">from 2022<\/a> until lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/03\/22\/politics\/house-office-diversity-inclusion-disbanded\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">voted to disband it<\/a> in March 2024, according to CNN and VCU.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump ordered federal agencies to scrap &ldquo;radical&rdquo; and &ldquo;wasteful&rdquo; DEI programs.
