The piece notes the long friendship between the two and that Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019; it also mentions Woods\u2019 dating of Trump\u2019s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump. Minutes later, Woods was charged with a DUI for his involvement in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Yeah, I was just talking to the president,&rdquo; Woods <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TMZ\/status\/2039817809950327001?s=20\">told<\/a> the police officer. &ldquo;Trying to get away from everybody.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>Trump and Woods have spoken about their close friendship in the past, with the president speaking out several times since Woods&rsquo; accident. Immediately following the news of the crash, Trump told reporters that he felt &ldquo;so badly&rdquo; for Woods.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There was an accident, and that&rsquo;s all I know,&rdquo; Trump told reporters last Friday. &ldquo;A very close friend of mine &mdash; he&rsquo;s an amazing person, an amazing man.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump also praised Woods&rsquo; decision to seek treatment after the DUI charge. Though police found Woods with two hydrocodone pills in his pocket and bloodshot eyes after the crash, the golf legend pleaded not guilty to the DUI. Several days after the incident, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/entertainment\/4512088\/tiger-woods-stepping-away-car-crash-dui-charge\/\">Woods announced<\/a> he would be &ldquo;stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a good thing that he&rsquo;s doing, &#8203;but he&rsquo;s going to end up being terrific,&rdquo; Trump <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4512952\/trump-tiger-woods-treatment-dui-car-crash\/\">said of <\/a>Woods. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s &#8203;a great guy.
