Bondi was set to testify on April 14 after the committee issued a subpoena over the DOJ\u2019s handling of Epstein materials, but President Trump\u2019s firing of Bondi has left questions about whether she can be compelled to appear. Committee Chairman James Comer said he would consult with Republican members and the DOJ to determine the subpoena\u2019s status and next steps. Republican Rep. Nancy mace argued the subpoena remains in force \u201cby name, not by title,\u201d while Democrats counter that it remains valid and Bondi must testify under oath. When the Oversight Committee moved to subpoena Bondi, I did it by name, not by or not as the sitting Attorney General of the U.S. RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have also argued back that the subpoena is valid and enforceable.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She will not escape accountability and remains legally obligated to appear before our Committee under oath,&rdquo; House Oversight ranking member Robert Garcia (D-CA) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepRobertGarcia\/status\/2039755055067439574?s=20\">wrote in a statement.<\/a> &ldquo;She must answer for her mishandling of the Epstein files and the special treatment she has given Ghislaine Maxwell.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;committee&nbsp;issued the subpoena last month&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/4480924\/house-oversight-votes-subpoena-pam-bondi-jeffrey-epstein-files\/\">after a March 4 bipartisan committee vote<\/a>&nbsp;authorizing the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >move amid bipartisan frustration<\/a> over Bondi&rsquo;s leadership, including falsely claiming she had a so-called client list on &ldquo;sitting on&rdquo; her desk to review, which the DOJ later said did not exist, and also invited conservative influencers to the White House to receive binders full of already public documents.<\/p>\n<p>In a&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/03.17.2026-Subpoena-Cover-Letter-Bondi-FINAL.pdf\">two-page cover letter<\/a>&nbsp;with the subpoena, Chairman&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/james-comer\/\">James Comer<\/a>&nbsp;(R-KY) said the committee is examining &ldquo;possible mismanagement&rdquo;
