The survey shows that 56% believe Democrats support open borders, while 44% think they do not. On deportation, 52% say Democrats back removing violent criminals here illegally, versus 48% who do not; 79% believe Republicans support deporting criminals. The poll notes a margin of error of about ±1.99 percentage points.

The article details a partisan clash over funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Democrats are described as unwilling to fund DHS without separating out Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE); Republicans advocate for reforms such as ICE body cameras but oppose Democrats’ demands for judicial warrants, a unique officer ID, and masking restrictions. The piece cites recent incidents involving immigration enforcement protesters and statements from Border Czar Tom Homan about the need for some anonymity for officers.

Legislative move results are also covered: the Senate reportedly passed a DHS appropriations bill without funding ICE and parts of CBP, while House Speaker Mike Johnson rejected that approach and pushed a two-month DHS funding package. Quotes from Johnson frame the two-track strategy as a way to reopen the department and fund enforcement, contrasting with Democrats’ stance on open borders. The article also includes embedded social media posts and various interactive elements.

A new poll found that the majority of Americans believe that the Democratic Party supports “open borders.”

The Harvard/Harris survey conducted from March 25-26 found that 56 percent of respondents think that the Democrats support open borders, while 44 percent believe they do not.

Further, only a slight majority —
