CBS&rsquo;s Robert Costa pressed Paul on a March <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> headline, titled, &ldquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4498339\/rand-paul-presidential-campaign-2028\/\">Rand Paul sounds like he&rsquo;s running for president<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t know yet,&rdquo; Paul <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RandPaul\/status\/2037639436393971801?s=20\">said<\/a> with a laugh. &ldquo;So maybe they know something I don&rsquo;t know.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pundits have postulated that Paul could launch a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2028-elections\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11676\">2028 presidential campaign<\/a> to mark a more libertarian challenge to a potential MAGA successor candidate, like Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"7658\">JD Vance<\/a>. In the preview of his interview with CBS, Paul described himself as one of, if not the only, true free-market, libertarian forces left in the Senate, but said he believes &ldquo;there still is a desire among business&rdquo; for politicians like that.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It may make the so-called libertarian vote, which might not be big enough to ever win anything, if you combine that with the Chamber of Commerce and the traditional business community that doesn&rsquo;t like protectionism, there may be a force out there for a different direction from the party, other than being continued to be led by populism,&rdquo; Paul said.<\/p>\n<p>Paul and Vance are among the names most talked about regarding the 2028 Republican presidential primary race, alongside Secretary of State <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"51\">Marco Rubio<\/a>. None of them has confirmed or denied plans to launch a bid.<\/p>\n<p>Paul &mdash; staunch in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-unveils-his-6t-budget\/\" title=\"Biden Unveils His T Budget\">fiscal hawk<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/watch-vivek-ramaswamy-rules-out-use-of-military-force-against-iran\/\" title=\"Vivek Ramaswamy opposes military action on Iran.\">anti-war stance<\/a> in the Senate &mdash; has drawn the ire of President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> and MAGA hardliners for his chamber votes against the Republican caucus.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kentucky\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"30\">Kentucky<\/a> Republican recently voted against the confirmation of Department of Homeland Security Secretary&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/markwayne-mullin\/\">Markwayne Mullin<\/a>, raising concerns about Mullin&rsquo;s previous comments on political violence.
