Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) to resign or be expelled after the House Ethics Committee found her guilty of multiple counts of wrongdoing. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-gop-duo-move-to-bolster-foreign-owned-media-transparency\/\" title=\"House GOP duo move to bolster foreign-owned media transparency\">rare public hearing<\/a>, the committee determined that 25 of the 27 counts against Cherfilus-McCormick were proven, including allegations of misusing about $5 million in FEMA funds and directing some of it to her campaign. The panel\u2019s findings have led fellow Democrats to call for her resignation or expulsion, while some colleagues are awaiting further actions, such as sanctions in April or related criminal proceedings. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) after the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ethics\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1012\">House Ethics Committee<\/a> found her guilty of over 50 cases of wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>Cherfilus-McCormick has been accused of stealing $5 million in funds from the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fema\/\">Federal Emergency Management Agency<\/a>, and using some of those funds for her campaign. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepMGP\/status\/2037531005574164500?s=20\">on X<\/a>, &ldquo;since she was found guilty, she should resign or be removed.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Other Democrats echoed Gluesenkamp&rsquo;s concerns. Rep. Scott Peters (D-CA) said her resignation would be &ldquo;easier for <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">everyo<\/span>ne&rdquo;&nbsp;in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/03\/27\/cherfilus-mccormick-resign-expel-ethics-democrats\">a statement<\/a> to <em>Axios.<\/em> &ldquo;If someone&rsquo;s misbehaved in the way she&rsquo;s said to have misbehaved, I think every member of Congress, regardless of party, has to respond to that, and I think we will,&rdquo; he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;She has to consider her constituents and the House Democratic caucus, so I think she should probably step aside,&rdquo; Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) echoed.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I mean, what&rsquo;s the difference between that and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2023\/12\/01\/george-santos-house-expulsion-vote\">George Santos<\/a>?&rdquo; Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) told <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/maxpcohen\/status\/2037531966715674907?s=20\"><em>Punchbowl News<\/em><\/a>, while also calling for her resignation.<\/p>\n<p>Reps. Becca Balint (D-VT.) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) also called for Cherfilus-McCormick&rsquo;s resignation. They both added that the Republicans should &ldquo;address&rdquo; Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX), who has been mired in controversy after admitting to an affair with a staffer who died by suicide. Gonzalez dropped his reelection bid in early March.<\/p>\n<p>Other Democrats are awaiting the criminal trial or the April hearing before commenting, while acknowledging the seriousness of the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want to opine on the details of that yet, but it looks problematic,&rdquo; Rep.
