J.B. Pritzker refuses to say whether he will honor an ICE detainer request for an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sanctuary-county-illegal-alien-accused-of-murdering-2-year-old-daughter\/\" title=\"Sanctuary County: Illegal Alien Accused of Murdering 2-Year-Old Daughter\">illegal alien accused<\/a> of killing an 18-year-old college student.<\/p>\n<p>Loyola University freshman Sheridan Gorman was walking in a park on Thursday morning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcchicago.com\/news\/local\/suspect-in-killing-of-loyola-university-chicago-student-hospitalized-states-attorney-says\/3912241\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">around 1:00 a.m.<\/a>, to &ldquo;catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights&rdquo; when Medina-Medina allegedly approached her. Gorman &ldquo;attempted to flee,&rdquo; but Medina-Medina allegedly shot her in the head. Gorman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7ny.com\/post\/chicago-police-questioning-person-interest-death-sheridan-gorman-loyola-university-student-westchester-county-ny\/18746613\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local reports<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/03\/22\/ice-asks-governor-pritzker-and-chicago-sanctuary-politicians-not-release-criminal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Department of Homeland Security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-279229817\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>ICE has &ldquo;lodged an arrest detainer asking sanctuary politicians to not release&rdquo; Medina-Medina, DHS said. But Pritzker&rsquo;s office refuses to say whether he will honor the detainer request for the alleged murderer. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving the senseless murder of Sheridan Gorman,&rdquo; a representative for Pritzker&rsquo;s office told The Federalist when asked whether Pritzker would honor the ICE detainer request for Jose Medina-Medina.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Violent crime has no place in our streets, and we expect the alleged perpetrator to be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,&rdquo; he continued. &ldquo;The Trump Administration needs to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >stop politicizing heinous tragedies<\/a> and instead focus on real solutions, like reinstating federal funds to prevent violence that support our public safety efforts.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Medina-Medina is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox32chicago.com\/news\/sheridan-gorman-loyola-killing-venezuelan-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">charged<\/a> with &ldquo;first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, three felony counts of aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm,&rdquo; according to Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Medina-Medina had previously been arrested in Chicago, Illinois for shoplifting but was released from custody, according to DHS. <\/p>\n<p>Notably, Chicago&rsquo;s sanctuary policies limit local law enforcement cooperation with federal immigration authorities. Local authorities are prohibited from voluntarily sharing information about a person&rsquo;s immigration status with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-nominate-texas-sheriff-to-lead-ice\/\" title=\"Biden to Nominate Texas Sheriff to Lead ICE\">federal immigration officers<\/a> under the city&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/content\/dam\/city\/depts\/mayor\/Office%20of%20New%20Americans\/PDFs\/WelcomeCityOrdinance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Welcoming City Ordinance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the state refuses to honor ICE detainer requests under the TRUST Act, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilga.gov\/Legislation\/ILCS\/Articles?ActID=3818&amp;ChapterID=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stipulates<\/a> &ldquo;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/did-president-trump-spring-a-trap-on-treasonous-democrats-on-election-night\/\" title=\"Did President Trump Spring a Trap on Treasonous Democrats on Election Night?\">law enforcement agency<\/a> or law enforcement official shall not detain or continue to detain any individual solely on the basis of any immigration detainer or civil immigration warrant or otherwise comply with an immigration detainer or civil immigration warrant.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Brianna Lyman is an elections correspondent at The Federalist.
