This is a moment to celebrate, to reflect and to renew our commitment to the enduring promise of America.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Some of the new events and exhibitions are specifically tailored to celebrate certain aspects of American heritage, such as <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/festival.si.edu\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/festival.si.edu\/\">folklife<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.si.edu\/exhibitions\/bison-standing-strong:event-exhib-6815\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.si.edu\/exhibitions\/bison-standing-strong:event-exhib-6815\">bison<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Three bronze sculptures of American bison, the nation&rsquo;s official mammal, are currently on permanent display outside the National Museum of Natural History. (AP Photo\/Rahmat Gul)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other programs include a three-day film festival in May dedicated to Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and America&rsquo;s 250th anniversary; an AR-storytelling experience honoring important American women; and an exhibition focused on the stories behind U.S. postage stamps.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks leading up to the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fourth-of-july\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1852\">Fourth of July<\/a>, the Smithsonian will host a four-day event that marks the summer solstice on June 21. The annual Solstice Saturday event is a big hit in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"260\">Washington, D.C.<\/a>, so the museum organizers are extending it to last the entire weekend this year.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the Smithsonian Castle will temporarily reopen this summer to allow visitors to tour the iconic 19th-century building. The castle has been closed since Feb. 1, 2023, due to a major five-year renovation. Construction will be temporarily paused as the castle remains open to the public from May 22 to Sept. 7.<\/p>\n<p>The Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building, the second-oldest building in the museum network, will also be temporarily reopened from June to September.<\/p>\n<p>Months ago, the White House <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4437824\/white-house-review-smithsonian-museum-america-250-plans-underway\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4437824\/white-house-review-smithsonian-museum-america-250-plans-underway\/\">started reviewing materials<\/a> for the Smithsonian&rsquo;s America 250 exhibits to ensure they aligned with the Trump administration&rsquo;s vision for the semiquincentennial.
