Nancy Mace of South Carolina addressed reports about Noem spending over $200 million on ad campaigns during her tenure, and said she plans to investigate the matter through subpoenas by the House Oversight Committee.<\/p>\n<p>The vote to advance Mullins came just one day after Paul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/markwayne-mullins-confirmation-hearing-gets-off-explosive-start-rand-paul-calls-liar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused him of being a liar<\/a> in his opening remarks.<\/p>\n<p>He also expressed concern about Mullins having &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/markwayne-mullins-confirmation-hearing-gets-off-to-explosive-start-as-rand-paul-calls-him-a-liar\/\" title=\"...&#039;s Confirmation Hearing Gets Off to Explosive Start as ... Calls Him a Liar\">anger issues&#038;rdquo<\/a>; and said he might not be the right person to lead such powerful agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Paul referenced an incident from 2017 when he was physically assaulted by one of his neighbors, and said Mullins told other people that he deserved to be attacked, after the two had a disagreement over legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You went on to brag that you&rsquo;d already told me to my face that you completely understood and approved of the assault,&rdquo; the libertarian Republican said. &ldquo;Well, that&rsquo;s a lie. You got a chance today. You can either continue to lie, or you can correct the record,&rdquo; the libertarian Republican said.<\/p>\n<p>Mullins defended himself and said Paul&rsquo;s statements about him being a liar were inaccurate, but offered an olive branch while promising to deliver for the American people.<\/p>\n<p>He explained the job of DHS secretary is &ldquo;bigger than the partisan bickering that we have,&rdquo; and that he&rsquo;s willing to &ldquo;set it aside&rdquo; if Paul is willing to make peace and let him &ldquo;earn&rdquo; it.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Let me earn your respect. Let me earn the job. I won&rsquo;t fail you. I won&rsquo;t back down from a challenge. And I also admit when I&rsquo;m wrong. I&rsquo;m not perfect. I don&rsquo;t claim to be perfect. I make mistakes, just like anybody else,&rdquo; Mullins stated. &ldquo;But mistakes, if you own them, you can learn from them, and you can move ahead.
