The annual Threat Assessment notes beijing wants unification as part of its national rejuvenation by 2049, but would rather set favorable conditions for peaceful unification rather than resort to war-recognizing that invasion would be extremely challenging and risk high failure, especially if the U.S. intervenes.

China’s approach combines economic integration, political incentives, social influence, and covert activities to tilt Taiwan toward unification without conflict. In Taiwan, public opinion largely favors maintaining the status quo or independence rather than unification, with polls showing about 21% supporting unification and around 61% preferring independence if the status quo cannot be preserved. The island’s major parties diverge: the KMT advocates a gradual path toward “one China” with Beijing, while the DPP views Taiwan as already sovereign. The U.S.is moving to strengthen Taiwan’s defenses, including an announced weapons package worth about $11 billion featuring Javelin missiles and other systems, signaling continued deterrence of any potential Chinese aggression.

China pursuing non-violent unification with Taiwan, unlikely to invade in 2027: US intel

The People’s Republic of China is unlikely to invade Taiwan by the end of 2027, U.S. <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/white-house-press-sec-jen-psaki-wants-to-quash-misinformation-she-has-a-history-of-promoting-it/" title="White House Press Sec.
