The piece argues that Platner, a wealthy “oyster farmer” and underdog in a blue-state race, could perhaps flip the Republican Senate seat held by Susan collins if he wins the primary, making his conduct especially consequential.

Key points the article highlights:

– Platner accuses billionaires of driving anti-trans sentiment in Maine school sports while he himself comes from notable wealth, calling out what it calls a culture-war distraction from broader political issues.

– The piece emphasizes a Nazi Totenkopf tattoo Platner reportedly has, noting conflicting explanations for its meaning and suggesting the tattoo reflects troubling associations. It argues the tattoo has strengthened his campaign rather than harmed it, according to some sources.

– It details Platner’s ties to anti-Semitic figures and content, including a 2026 interview with Nate Cornacchia and boosts of anti-Semitic rhetoric, which the article says undermine his stated condemnation of rising antisemitism.

– the article references Platner’s social media activity, including posts about antisemitism and wars in the Middle East, and notes that he has aligned with or promoted content from figures associated with Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories.

– It mentions broader political dynamics, such as a ballot initiative supported by a Republican megadonor and Platner’s place among a perceived cadre of left-leaning candidates who are described as privileged and problematic.

– The piece argues that Platner’s week serves as a cautionary example of why some view left-wing, privileged anti-Semitism within the Democratic party as a worrying trend, regardless of whether Platner wins or loses the primary.

the article casts Platner as embodying a clash between rich liberal messaging and controversial associations, suggesting such contradictions could pose risks for the democratic Party’s future in Maine and beyond.

Graham Platner, once touted as the future of the Democratic Party, is having a week.

In case you’ve forgotten about him, Platner is the far-left “oyster farmer” (translation: rich nepo-baby who took up a blue-collar trade more as a hobby than a career) running for the Democratic nomination for Senate in Maine.

While he’s an underdog in the primary against Gov. In fact, it seems, in many ways, it’s strengthened us.”

Well, if one Nazi-loving gesture strengthened his chances, why not a bunch of them?

That’s not a rhetorical question, alas. In January, he sat down for an interview with anti-Semitic conspiracy theorist Nate Cornacchia, according to Jewish Insider, during which he described himself as “a longtime fan” of his YouTube channel, “Valhalla VFT.”

Cornacchia has, among other things, claimed Israel was involved in the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

In February, meanwhile, Platner boosted a social media post decrying a potential war with Iran made by Stew Peters, another anti-Semite who loves him some Holocaust denial. This time, Platner’s campaign said they removed the boost after finding Peters was running a “despicable account.”

And even without those specifics, there are the generalities: He’s the kind of leftist that calls military action against Gaza “genocide” and makes common cause with the people responsible for that pesky rise in anti-Semitism that causes Islamic State group sympathizers to attempt a terror attack against a synagogue.

This would be cosmic justice visited upon a guy who’s had it coming since he launched his campaign last year. The problem is that privileged-crypto-commie anti-Semite leftists have been touted as the future of the Democratic Party. Platner might not be the most visible, but he’s still been lumped in with figures like Zohran Mamdani and Rashida Tlaib as the next generation of leftist.

These past few days, in other words, should be viewed as an object lesson in just why that should scare the dickens out of us, even if he does lose the primary to Gov. Susan Collins could be significant in a blue state during a year that favors the opposition, so his actions are getting close scrutiny because they reveal a set of hypocrisies that many find troubling.

Over the past seven days, Platner attacked “billionaires” for driving an anti-trans agenda in high school sports, then condemned antisemitism even as he’s been linked to actual Nazis and other anti-Semites. A viral clip from a Slate interview showed him suggesting that opposition to transgender athletes in Maine was funded by an out-of-state billionaire aiming to avoid tax increases, noting there are only a couple of trans athletes in Maine. He also pointed to the expiration of Obamacare subsidies as a counterpoint to the culture-war debate. The clip referenced donors and ballot campaigns connected to protecting girls’ sports, with billionaire Richard Uihlein named by some outlets as a motive force behind a Maine ballot initiative, a point Platner’s remarks seemed to imply.

The irony, as highlighted by the piece, is that Platner’s own background is steeped in privilege: an elite Connecticut boarding school and a family tied to a famous architect, while he lectures about “eat-the-rich” logic. The controversy intensified when he commented on a deadly attack against a Michigan synagogue, saying antisemitism is on the rise and must be stopped. The article argues that the rise of antisemitism is more often linked to the left and notes that Platner himself has drawn scrutiny for a Nazi tattoo on his chest, which some say he knew the meaning of, despite initially offering various explanations. He has defended or minimized the tattoo in the past, and his ties to anti-Semitic figures and conspiracy theorists-such as Nate Cornacchia and Stew Peters-are highlighted, including scaled-back promotions of Peters’ content after discovery of problematic material.

Overall, the piece casts Platner as a case study in what it describes as privileged, crypto-Left anti-Semitism that some fear could define the future of the Democratic Party. Even if Platner doesn’t win the primary, the columnist argues that his week-long sequence of statements and associations is a warning about the kind of rhetoric and allies some say the party cannot afford to embrace

https://www.westernjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Ben-Working-Feature-Image-2026-03-14T160239.575.jpg
[33651
18766,7053,6571,5235,75815
post-2579929","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-anti-trans","tag-antisemitism","tag-elections","tag-extremism","tag-nepo-baby
https://www.westernjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Ben-Working-Feature-Image-2026-03-14T160239.575.jpg
["GET
